Waarom dit project?

Alarmen zijn bedoeld om techniekers tijdig te helpen ingrijpen. Wanneer er echter te veel alarmen binnenkomen, ontstaat alarmmoeheid: belangrijke signalen verdwijnen tussen meldingen die weinig of geen actie vereisen. Dit project pakt die uitdaging aan op een gestructureerde manier. De student analyseert bestaande alarmen, leert utilities-installaties functioneel begrijpen en vertaalt die inzichten naar een doordachte alarmclassificatie.

Opdracht

De geselecteerde utilities-installaties functioneel leren kennen: procesfunctie, componenten, storingsscenario's en impact op de werking. De bestaande alarmen analyseren aan de hand van alarmlijsten en beschikbare technische informatie. De uitgewerkte beslissingsboom toepassen om de juiste alarmclassificatie per alarm te bepalen. Evalueren of bestaande alarmen relevant zijn, aangepast moeten worden of eventueel niet langer nodig zijn. Identificeren of er ontbrekende alarmen zijn die vanuit technisch of operationeel oogpunt wel zinvol zijn. Een onderbouwde alarmclassificatielijst opstellen en bespreken met Utilities, techniekers en de Automation-afdeling. De nodige input voorbereiden zodat Automation de overeengekomen aanpassingen kan implementeren. Het bouwen van een typical standaard voor gelijkaardige installaties

Verwachte resultaten

  • Een functionele analyse van de gekozen installaties en hun kritische alarmnoden.
  • Een beoordeelde alarmlijst met voorgestelde classificatie volgens de beslissingsboom.
  • Een overzicht van niet-relevante, fout geclassificeerde of ontbrekende alarmen.
  • Een overzicht van ontbrekende alarmen die toch zinvol zijn.
  • Een implementatieklare inputlijst voor verdere bespreking met Automation.
  • Een typical standaad alarmlijst voor de gekozen installaties
  • Een eindrapport met conclusies, onderbouwing en aanbevelingen voor verdere uitrol naar andere installaties.

Wat leer je tijdens deze masterproef?

  • Alarmclassificatie toepassen in een reële industriële en technische context.
  • Functioneel redeneren over utilities-installaties, procesrisico's en operationele impact.
  • Engineeringkeuzes onderbouwen met een beslissingsboom en technische argumentatie.
  • Samenwerken met Automation en onderhoudsteams om analyse om te zetten naar implementeerbare lijsten.
  • Een project structureren waarbij technische analyse, stakeholderafstemming en implementatievoorbereiding samenkomen.
  • Een analytische engineeringopdracht rond alarmclassificatie, technische relevantie en implementatie met Automation.
  • Master industrieel ingenieur – elektromechanica, automatisering, procestechnologie, onderhoud of gelijkwaardig
  • Startperiode: november 2026 of samen af te stemmen
  • Duurtijd: variabel; af te stemmen volgens de gekozen scope en stagevoorwaarden
  • Sterke interesse in automatisering, onderhoud, process, reliability en industriële utilities.
  • Analytisch ingesteld en in staat om technische informatie systematisch te beoordelen.
  • Kan zelfstandig werken, maar zoekt actief afstemming met techniekers, engineers en automation specialisten.
  • Communiceert helder en kan beslissingen onderbouwen in een technisch rapport.
  • Je beschikt over goede communicatieve vaardigheden, zowel schriftelijk als mondeling in het Nederlands en Engels.
  • Deze masterproef is geschikt voor één of meerdere studenten, afhankelijk van de gekozen scope

Mogelijke scope

De scope kan opgeschaald of opgesplitst worden per installatie, installatietype of alarmlijst. Daardoor kan het project uitgevoerd worden door één student of door meerdere studenten die elk een afgebakend deel analyseren volgens dezelfde methodiek.
