De functie De Jeugd- en Gezinsprofessional richt zich op het activeren en motiveren van cliënten en betrokken kinderen die problemen hebben met of tekorten ervaren in hun sociaal functioneren, om actief deel te nemen aan het interne en externe ondersteuningsaanbod. Daarnaast heeft de Jeugd- en Gezinsprofessional een leidende rol in de individuele begeleiding van cliënten op het gebied van een veilige opvoeding en ontwikkeling van het kind. De begeleiding is gericht op het activeren van de mogelijkheden die kinderen en jongeren en gezinssystemen in zich hebben. De begeleiding richt zich daarnaast op het stimuleren van persoonlijke groei, het versterken van het gevoel voor eigenwaarde en het vergroten van de weerbaarheid en de sociale vaardigheden. De organisatie Stichting Elckerlyc zet zich sinds 1979 in om volwassen en kinderen te ondersteunen bij herstel van veiligheid en zelfredzaamheid, specifiek in de regio Maassluis, Vlaardingen en Schiedam. De ondersteuning van Elckerlyc duurt zo kort als kan, maar zo lang als noodzakelijk. Het team van Elckerlyc werkt met veel betrokkenheid samen met cliënten aan herstel, veiligheid en zelfredzaamheid, van crisis naar kracht. We zorgen ervoor dat iedereen zo snel mogelijk weer een fijn thuis voor zichzelf creëert. De organisatie kenmerkt zich door een sterk teamgevoel en oog voor iedere client op zich (maatwerk), waarbij het team creativiteit in oplossingen niet schuwt.
