De Tweede Kamer is op zoek naar een nieuwe Nationale ombudsman. Solliciteren op deze functie kan tot en met 22 oktober. Kamervoorzitter Thom van Campen en Nationale ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen. De Nationale ombudsman is er voor burgers als het misgaat tussen hen en de overheid. De Nationale ombudsman vindt dat het perspectief van burgers centraal moet staan in alles wat de overheid doet. De ombudsman komt op voor de belangen van burgers en helpt de overheid om haar dienstverlening te verbeteren. De Nationale ombudsman helpt burgers door hen de weg te wijzen naar het juiste loket, advies te geven en (klacht)onderzoek te doen. Daarnaast daagt de Nationale ombudsman overheden uit anders naar hun werk en dienstverlening te kijken en na te denken over hoe het beter kan. Dat doet de ombudsman door het handelen van de overheid te toetsen aan behoorlijkheid. De behoorlijkheidsvereisten vormen daarbij het kompas: aan de hand daarvan beoordeelt de Nationale ombudsman klachten en geeft overheidsorganisaties concrete aanbevelingen om hun dienstverlening te verbeteren. De Nationale ombudsman wordt ondersteund door en is verantwoordelijk voor een bureau met ruim 250 medewerkers. De dagelijkse aansturing van het bureau delegeert de ombudsman aan een algemeen directeur. De medewerkers zetten zich in voor de Nationale ombudsman, Kinderombudsman en Veteranenombudsman. Zij dragen bij aan een goed functionerende samenleving waarin burgers, kinderen en veteranen zich gehoord, gezien en begrepen voelen.
