29 september 2026 Na heel wat technische updates, deskresearch en afstemming waren wij, collega's Maaike en Feline, erg enthousiast om het mobiele waterfiltratiesysteem weer terug te brengen naar de plek waar het thuishoort: in het veld! Als onderdeel van het innovatietraject binnen het SBIR-programma van RVO werken Q-Point en haar partners Plotus Technology, House of Maji en OffGridBox aan een tuk-tuk mobiel waterfiltratiesysteem. Het systeem is bedoeld om afgelegen gemeenschappen in Kenia van drinkwater te voorzien. Momenteel testen we het systeem aan de oevers van het Turkanameer (Marsabit County), maar het kan overal worden ingezet waar grote behoefte is aan schoon en veilig drinkwater. De komende maanden testen we niet alleen het systeem zelf, maar leiden we ook jeugd op en werken we nauw met hen samen. Zo zorgen we ervoor dat zij goed voorbereid zijn om hun eigen systeem zelfstandig te beheren. Er wordt een lokaal watercomité opgericht dat de verbinding vormt tussen de operators en de inwoners en toezicht houdt op het beheer van het systeem. Het doel is dat met de inkomsten uit de verkoop van water voldoende middelen worden gegenereerd om het systeem zelf te onderhouden. Zo kan het uitgroeien tot een duurzame, zelfvoorzienende oplossing voor afgelegen gebieden.
