In dit project werk je aan een relevante klinische vraag: Waar komt het bloedstolsel vandaan dat een herseninfarct veroorzaakt? Je onderzoekt hoe innovatieve biologische en radiologische technieken kunnen helpen om de oorzaak van een herseninfarct beter te achterhalen. Daarmee werk je aan onderzoek dat direct aansluit bij de klinische praktijk en op termijn kan bijdragen aan meer gerichte diagnostiek en behandeling. Achtergrond en doel van het onderzoek Bij ongeveer 25-30% van de patiënten met een herseninfarct blijft de onderliggende oorzaak, ondanks uitgebreid diagnostisch onderzoek, onbekend. Dit leidt ertoe dat patiënten niet altijd de juiste behandeling krijgen en achter blijven met een belangrijke vraag: "Wat is de oorzaak van mijn herseninfarct? " In dit project onderzoeken we daarom de trombus, het bloedstolsel dat het herseninfarct heeft veroorzaakt, zelf in detail. Hiervoor combineren we innovatieve pathobiologische technieken met geavanceerde CT-scan analyses. Door biologische en radiologische kenmerken van het stolsel te analyseren, willen we beter begrijpen waar het stolsel in het lichaam is ontstaan en wat de oorzaak ervan is. Deze kennis kan bijdragen aan een nauwkeurigere classificatie van herseninfarcten en uiteindelijk aan meer gerichte behandeling. Als promovendus heb je een centrale rol binnen dit multidisciplinaire onderzoeksproject op het snijvlak van neurologie, radiologie en pathobiologie.
