Iedereen die bij de gemeente werkt, bouwt direct of indirect en uit volle overtuiging mee aan Zoetermeer. Afdeling De afdeling Stadsbeheer heeft als missie: "Samen aan de kwaliteit van de stad werken". Stadsbeheer zorgt samen met de Zoetermeerders voor de kwaliteit van de leefomgeving en de duurzame instandhouding en onderhoud van de openbare ruimte in een door de Raad vastgestelde kwaliteit en tegen de laagst mogelijke maatschappelijke kosten. Stadsbeheer is binnen de directie de integrale beheerorganisatie die verantwoordelijk is voor het beleid, de programmering en (de regie op) de uitvoering van alle activiteiten die nodig zijn voor het beheer en onderhoud van de openbare ruimte. Stadsbeheer levert dagelijks een grote verscheidenheid aan diensten en producten: van boomverzorging tot straatvegen, van openbare verlichting tot rioolbeheer.
