The posting

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Engineer in AI-Native IDE & Agentic Developer Tooling to join a small, highly technical R&D team in Amsterdam.

You will explore and build the next generation of AI-native developer experiences — from intelligent IDE capabilities and coding agents to context-aware, tool-using and self-verifying development workflows.

This is a highly hands-on role with significant technical ownership. You will turn emerging ideas in LLMs, coding agents and developer tooling into working prototypes, evaluate new architectures, and help shape future product direction.

What you'll do

  • Build working prototypes and technical demos for AI-native IDE and developer-tooling capabilities.
  • Explore how modern coding agents handle context, tool use, planning, orchestration and verification.
  • Design and prototype AI-assisted and agentic developer workflows that improve developer productivity and experience.
  • Evaluate emerging IDE, LLM and agent architectures hands-on and translate findings into practical technical recommendations.
  • Experiment with new approaches to context engineering, agent orchestration and coding-agent evaluation.
  • Collaborate with universities, open-source communities, researchers and industry partners.
  • Work closely with international R&D teams to influence technical direction and future product capabilities.

What we're looking for

  • Strong hands-on experience building IDE, developer-tooling or engineering-productivity features.
  • Good understanding of IDE technologies such as IntelliJ Platform, PSI, Lsp, or similar architectures.
  • Practical experience with LLMs, coding agents, context engineering, agent orchestration, or evaluation.
  • Strong software engineering skills and the ability to independently turn an early-stage idea into a working prototype.
  • Strong engineering judgment and ability to evaluate emerging technologies beyond the proof-of-concept stage.
  • Strong English communication skills and confidence working with international technical teams.
  • Based in Amsterdam or willing to relocate.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with compiler toolchains, build systems, runtimes, debugging, or developer test infrastructure.
  • Contributions to developer tools, AI coding tools, research projects, or open-source communities.
  • Experience building developer tooling for ecosystems with limited documentation, tooling, or training data.
  • Experience with code intelligence, code completion, static analysis, refactoring, or program analysis.
  • Strong technical communication skills and the ability to clearly explain and advocate for new technical ideas.

Why join?

You'll work at the intersection of AI, IDEs and software engineering, exploring how the next generation of developers will build software with intelligent agents.

Rather than simply integrating existing AI APIs, you'll have the opportunity to experiment, prototype and influence how AI-native development environments are designed from the ground up.

The position is based in Amsterdam and offers a competitive compensation package within an international R&D environment. -

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
