About us!

We work closely with our customers to create unique flavor elements to ice cream bases and yogurt preps. Many of our ingredients end up in easily recognizable brands on the store shelf as we produce for both international corporations as well as smaller, local brands. Our Research and Development is done in-house, providing us the ability to see the whole process from ideation to creation. We support regional trade organizations, source locally when appropriate and provide healthy food to people’s tables.

Quality Assurance Specialist

Department: Quality Assurance

Status: Non-Exempt

Employee Classification: Regular

Reports To: Quality Assurance Technical Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for supporting compliance with regulations and the Safe Quality Food (SQF) program under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager. The QA Specialist also acts as a designated backup to the QA Supervisor and QA Technicians.

Essential Functions:

  • Nonconformance analysis and trending
  • Root Cause Analysis in support of Corrective and Preventive Actions
  • Management of Customer Complaints and Vendor Complaints
  • SOP and quality documentation development and revisions
  • Maintenance of customer and supplier document portals (Trace Gains, Kosher, Organic, etc.)
  • Routine audits and inspections, including supplier audits
  • Product testing including Brix, pH, and other parameters
  • Verification of HACCP and food safety records
  • Validation of critical processes such as food safety, sanitation and new equipment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology or a related field.
  2. 2+ years applicable experience in the food industry, preferably in a hands-on role.
  3. Strong analytical and investigative skills and an understanding of statistics.
  4. Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions/preventive actions (CAPAs) strongly preferred.
  5. HACCP certification and SQF experience preferred.
  6. Lean/Six Sigma training preferred.
  7. Shift flexibility and some travel availability as required.
  8. Detail oriented team player with superior verbal, written, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  9. Skilled in computer systems and MS Office with working knowledge of computer databases.
  10. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks.

Working Conditions/Physical Factors:

  1. Worker may be exposed to temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. More extreme temperatures possible during summer months.
  2. Worker exposed to a loud working environment.
  3. Worker exposed to hazards in the work place such as proximity to equipment conducting extreme heat, moving parts, and electrical current.
  4. Must be able to work in environment containing allergens (nuts, milk, wheat, etc.).
