About Evidence Action

Evidence Action is a global nonprofit organization with an approach distinctive in international development—we exclusively scale interventions that are backed by strong evidence and can be delivered with exceptional cost-effectiveness. Since our founding in 2013, we have reached over 515 million people globally with our interventions. We deliver high impact for every dollar spent, as recognized by GiveWell, The Life You Can Save, and Charity Navigator.

We do development differently. We take a data-driven approach to identifying, scaling, and continuously improving programs that deliver immense impact, ensuring these solutions measurably improve the lives of millions. Our Deworm the World Program has helped governments in Africa and Asia deliver over 1.8 billion childhood deworming treatments, improving health, education, and incomes. Safe Water Now provides sustained safe water access to over 10 million people in Africa, preventing childhood illness and deaths.

We drive innovation: Our Accelerator builds the next generation of exceptional programs, taking an approach most similar to a venture capital model. We are ruthless in exiting programs that do not meet our criteria; those that advance deliver outsized impact for millions of people.

We are global. Across nine countries in Africa and Asia, our 700+ people are united by a tremendous passion for our mission and impact. We are strong because of our diversity of experience, geography, and background—with over 90% of our people in the countries where our impact is focused.

We have big ambitions. Over the next decade, we’re setting our sights higher: We aim to reach over 600 million people globally to fulfill our vision of a world where hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places have better opportunities and their lives are measurably improved. We believe in bold and urgent action—because poverty doesn’t wait, and neither should we.

We need great people. Our success to date is due to the collective work of our amazing staff. To achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for people who share our passion for evidence, cost-effectiveness, and scale. We seek individuals who take an entrepreneurial approach, enjoy tackling hard problems, and have a bias to action and results. If our vision and approach excite you as much as they do us, we invite you to join us.

Job purpose

The Driver provides safe, reliable and timely transportation for the Liberia Country Team, guests, and authorised riders, enabling the SFS and KMC programs to deliver supportive supervision, supply delivery, data collection, trainings and stakeholder engagement in Monrovia and across all 15 counties.

The role safeguards staff, passengers, program commodities and organisational assets by operating and maintaining assigned vehicles to the highest safety standards, complying with Evidence Action fleet policies and Liberian traffic law, and keeping accurate trip, fuel and maintenance records that support accountability to donors and government partners. The driver shall be responsible for managing the vehicle and assisting in the maintenance and repair.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Safe transportation of staff and visitors

  • Drive staff, consultants, government counterparts and authorised visitors to meetings, health facilities and field sites in Monrovia and across all 15 counties.
  • Observe Liberian traffic laws, speed limits and Evidence Action vehicle and travel security policies at all times, including no night driving outside approved exceptions.
  • Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and that only authorised persons and loads are carried.
  • Plan routes with the requesting team, factoring in road condition, rainy-season access, distance and security, and advise on realistic travel times.
  • Maintain phone contact with the office during field trips and follow check-in and movement-tracking procedures.

2. Program logistics support (SFS and KMC)

  • Transport program commodities and materials (e.g., syphilis test kits, KMC supplies, equipment, training materials, data tools) safely and in line with handling instructions where applicable.
  • Support loading, offloading and hand-over of supplies at county health teams and facilities, and ensure delivery notes and waybills are signed.
  • Assist field teams with practical logistics during supervision visits, trainings and assessments (e.g., collecting documents, delivering messages, coordinating pick-ups).

3. Vehicle care and maintenance

  • Conduct and record daily pre-trip checks (tyres, fluids, lights, brakes, spare tyre, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, recovery tools).
  • Keep the vehicle clean, roadworthy and field-ready at all times.
  • Report mechanical faults promptly and arrange or follow up on scheduled servicing and repairs with approved garages.
  • Carry out minor roadside repairs (e.g., tyre change, basic troubleshooting) when needed in the field.

4. Records, documentation and accountability

  • Complete vehicle logbooks accurately for every trip: date, destination, purpose, passengers, odometer readings and fuel.
  • Manage fuel cards or fuel cash according to finance procedures, retaining and submitting receipts on time.
  • Ensure vehicle documents (registration, insurance, roadworthiness, permits) are valid and carried in the vehicle; flag renewals in advance.
  • Report any accident, incident, traffic violation or damage immediately, following the organisation's incident-reporting procedure.

5. Administrative and office support

  • Deliver and collect mail, documents and items between the office, Ministry of Health, banks, partners and other offices as requested.
  • Support airport pick-ups and drop-offs and logistics for workshops and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Education and licensing

  • Minimum of a high school diploma (WASSCE) or equivalent.
  • Valid Liberian driver's licence appropriate for the vehicle class (light and 4x4 vehicles)
  • A certificate in defensive driving, first aid or basic vehicle mechanics is an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 3–5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, UN agency, health program or international organisation.
  • Proven experience driving 4x4 vehicles on unpaved, rural and rainy-season roads, with demonstrated travel to counties outside Montserrado.
  • A clean driving record with no serious accidents or major traffic offences in the last five years.
  • Experience transporting program supplies and maintaining trip logs and fuel records.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good knowledge of Liberia's road network, county capitals and routes to health districts and facilities.
  • Basic vehicle mechanics and the ability to perform routine checks and minor repairs.
  • Literate and numerate enough to complete logbooks, fuel reports and delivery forms accurately.
  • Basic use of a smartphone (GPS/maps, WhatsApp, and phone-based check-ins); basic computer skills are an advantage.
  • Fluent spoken and written English; knowledge of Liberian English and one or more local languages is an advantage.

Working Conditions

  • Based at the Evidence Action office in Monrovia, with frequent field travel to all 15 counties. Field trips may last several days to two weeks, with overnight stays in county capitals or district towns.
  • Working hours follow the office schedule but often include early departures, late returns, weekends and public holidays when field activities require it.
  • Driving is frequently on unpaved, rural roads that may be muddy, flooded or washed out during the rainy season (roughly May to October). Some routes involve river crossings or long distances with limited fuel, repair services or mobile network coverage.
  • Exposure to heat, rain, dust and humidity, and to health risks common in rural areas, such as malaria.
  • Accommodation and facilities in the field may be basic.
  • The jobholder must follow Evidence Action's safety and security, safeguarding, anti-fraud and code-of-conduct policies always, including zero tolerance for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Physical requirements

  • Medically fit to drive for long hours (often 6–10 hours a day) over rough terrain; a medical fitness check may be required before hiring.

  • Able to lift, carry, load and offload program supplies and equipment of up to about 25 kg, with help or equipment for heavier items.
  • Able to perform physically demanding roadside tasks such as changing tyres, using recovery equipment and pushing or digging out a stuck vehicle.
  • Able to stand, bend, kneel and walk on uneven ground during vehicle checks, deliveries and field visits.
  • Physically able to cope with travel in hot, humid and wet conditions for extended periods.

This position will be based in Monrovia with frequent travel to the 15 counties.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
