The posting

Are you looking for a role where you help to maintain safe, secure and inspiring learning environments for our school communities?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, practical and self-motivated individual to join our Central Estates Team. This is a varied and rewarding role that would suit an experienced caretaker, facilities assistant, maintenance operative or skilled trade professional who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and making a visible difference every day. Working across multiple sites (please see location attachment), you will play an important role in supporting the upkeep, maintenance, compliance and presentation of our school buildings and grounds, ensuring that our pupils and staff benefit from high-quality learning environments.

As part of a professional and supportive estates team, you will undertake a range of planned and reactive maintenance activities, contribute to health and safety and compliance requirements, support small improvement projects, and help ensure our schools remain safe, operational and fit for purpose. The role offers variety, autonomy and the opportunity to develop your skills across a broad range of facilities and building maintenance disciplines.

Salary: dependent on qualifications and experience: E3 grade: £26,427 - £26.847; E4 grade: £27,274 - £29,071

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, all year round

Contract: Permanent

Interview Date: 17 November 2026

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in caretaking, property maintenance, facilities management or a similar environment.
  • Possesses practical skills in building repairs, maintenance and general DIY activities.
  • Can work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Builds positive relationships with colleagues, school staff, contractors and visitors.
  • Has a good understanding of health and safety requirements and the importance of maintaining compliant and well-presented premises.
  • Is organised, reliable and able to use initiative to resolve problems.
  • Is able to provide their own transport and is willing to travel between our Trust schools that are all located within North Somerset (milage expenses will be reimbursed).

Why Join ELAN?

At ELAN, you'll be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking estates team where your work directly supports schools, enhances learning environments and positively impacts pupils, staff and the wider community.

We recognise that our people are our greatest asset and are committed to providing an excellent range of benefits, including:

  • Generous Local Government Pension Scheme with above-average employer contributions.

  • Five paid carer's days in addition to annual leave entitlement.
  • A supportive and inclusive team culture where collaboration is valued.
  • The opportunity to work across multiple school sites, providing varied and rewarding experiences.
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference to the education and wellbeing of thousands of pupils.
  • Secure employment within a growing and ambitious Multi-Academy Trust committed to excellence.

Join ELAN and help create safe, inspiring and sustainable school environments where children can learn, achieve and thrive.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
