Working at Walker

At Walker, your contribution matters. Become part of a team you can count on and where your health and safety are our priority. Our team of more than 1200 people work in environmental waste management and recovery, renewable energy, paving and construction, aggregates, and emulsions chemistries. We are a fifth-generation, family-owned company founded in 1887, operating from our base in the Niagara Region with facilities across Canada and the United States. We care about the environment, each other, and our neighbours, and give back to our communities. Join us on our journey to build a sustainable future, together.

About the Job

Are you an experienced construction leader who knows how to turn a project plan into results in the field?

We’re looking for a Project Superintendent to join our team in Niagara Falls and lead the successful delivery of major civil construction projects, including highways, municipal roads, and related infrastructure.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Major Projects, you’ll play a key leadership role in planning, coordinating, and supervising site operations. From people and equipment to materials, schedules, safety, and production, you’ll make sure every piece comes together safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

You’ll lead and support Site and Crew Foremen, subcontractors, and project resources while keeping projects moving on schedule, within budget, and to specification.

If you thrive in a fast-paced field environment, take pride in building strong teams, and have the experience to make smart decisions when challenges arise, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.

Location: Niagara Falls, Ontario Salary: $90,000–$105,000 based on experience and qualifications

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead day-to-day project operations, coordinating crews, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to deliver major civil projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Plan and schedule project activities, working closely with Site and Crew Foremen to set priorities, manage production, and keep work progressing toward key milestones.
  • Drive safety and environmental performance by leading by example, reinforcing company standards, and ensuring all work complies with applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Manage project performance and costs by monitoring production rates, labour, materials, equipment, and project quantities to keep work within budget and maximize profitability.
  • Coordinate resources and logistics, including equipment moves, material deliveries, subcontractors, and site activities to minimize downtime and keep projects moving.
  • Monitor project progress and identify opportunities, reviewing field reports against project plans and estimates to address challenges, improve productivity, and capture additional work.
  • Maintain quality and compliance, ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently in accordance with project specifications, company policies, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and develop your team, providing coaching, guidance, motivation, and performance feedback to Site and Crew Foremen while building a strong culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Here’s What You Need

  • A minimum high school diploma or equivalent; a two- or three-year college diploma is preferred, with CET designation considered an asset.
  • 5–10 years of project supervisory experience, preferably in heavy civil, aggregates, road construction, or a related industry.
  • A valid Ontario G Driver’s Licence in good standing.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with customers, employees, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • The ability to provide technical guidance and explain complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Proven experience planning and overseeing the workload of a medium-sized team, including providing constructive performance feedback.
  • Strong knowledge of unionized work environments, policies, procedures, and collective agreements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve technical and operational challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Experience facilitating training and promoting health, safety, and environmental initiatives.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to doing the job right, while maintaining accurate records and documentation.

What’s in it for you

  • You become part of a team you can count on
  • A comprehensive total rewards package and benefits to support your wellbeing
  • Leaders who support your growth and success
  • A workplace that provides the best health & safety practices in industry
  • Give back to your community with two paid volunteer days annually and opportunities to become involved in events

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
