Finisher II Bird-Johnson Propeller Company Join a team dedicated to the quality and performance of industry-leading propellers and components. As a Finisher II, you will perform precision grinding, surface finishing, balancing, and inspection to ensure products meet specified tolerances and quality requirements. This hands-on manufacturing role supports U.S. Navy products and involves safely handling components weighing more than 10,000 pounds using specialized material-handling equipment. Key Responsibilities
Surface Finishing: Perform finishing operations on propellers of various sizes using approved tools, methods, and work instructions for U.S. Navy products. Grinding and Defect Repair: Repair minor surface defects and grind as-cast and machined surfaces to achieve specified tolerances and surface finishes. Inspection and Measurement: Conduct liquid penetrant inspection (LPI); measure and record propeller geometry and thickness dimensions using gauges, calipers, and other measuring devices; and stencil required hub data. Component Balancing: Balance controllable-pitch propeller blades, fixed-pitch propellers, waterjet impellers, hub bodies, and hub assemblies to meet performance requirements. Documentation and Compliance: Accurately complete and maintain process records while following Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E), quality, and security requirements. Material Handling: Safely rig, move, and position large components using overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, and other approved equipment. Workplace Organization: Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas in accordance with 5S housekeeping practices.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of manufacturing experience in propeller finishing. U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in safely operating overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely work with large components weighing more than 10,000 pounds using appropriate rigging and material-handling equipment.
