The posting

Company Description

Fastmarkets is an industry-leading price-reporting agency (PRA) and information provider for global commodities, providing price data, news, analytics and events for the agriculture, forest products, metals and mining and new-generation energy markets.

Fastmarkets' data is critical for customers seeking to understand and predict dynamic, sometimes opaque markets, enabling trading and risk management. Fastmarkets is a global business with a history dating back to 1865 and is built on trust and deep market knowledge. It has more than 700 employees spread across global locations in the UK, US, China, India, Singapore, Brazil, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland and beyond.

Job Description

The Role

Fastmarkets is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join our worldwide Cloud Engineering team. The team builds the secure, performant and scalable cloud and infrastructure platforms predominantly Azure that our customer-facing products and internal applications run on.

Reporting to the Cloud Lead, you will design, build and maintain that infrastructure as code, deliver secure integrations, and modernise how we build and deploy. This is a hands-on engineering role: everything is infrastructure as code, secure by design, and built with cost, operability and supportability in mind.

You will work closely with Engineering, Data, InfoSec and IT Operations teams, and be expected to bring sound technical judgement able to steer requests towards the right architecture, not just deliver what was asked for.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Infrastructure as Code — design and maintain Terraform for Azure; build plan-only CI, remote state, resource import and reusable modules.
  • CI/CD & DevOps — build GitHub Actions pipelines and migrate legacy CI/CD (TeamCity, Octopus Deploy) onto modern workflows.
  • Containers & deployment — containerise and deploy applications to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) using Docker, Kustomize, ArgoCD (GitOps), Sealed Secrets and Traefik ingress.
  • Secure integrations — deliver integrations between external services and Azure using managed identities, service principals and scoped RBAC.
  • Security & governance — perform security discovery and audits, drive zero-trust and credential-lockdown work, and take designs through security review gates.
  • Documentation & enablement — produce inventories, architecture docs, runbooks and reusable patterns and templates the wider team can adopt.

Qualifications

We recruit talented, dynamic people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, all united by a belief in our mission to provide the world’s leading and most trusted price reporting, events, and intelligence service for the markets we serve. We’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to creating a fully inclusive workplace, where everyone feels able to participate and contribute meaningfully.

If you are open-minded, curious, resilient, solutions-oriented and committed to promoting equality, then read on.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, driven, and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced, successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.

Essential

  • 2–4 years in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, platform engineering or infrastructure roles, building and changing production systems in Azure.
  • Microsoft Azure — Resource Groups, Virtual Networks/Subnets, Storage Accounts, Azure SQL, Key Vault, Application Gateway, VMs/VMSS, NSGs.
  • Azure networking & Private Link — Private Endpoints, Private DNS Zones, VNet links, storage firewalls and IP allowlisting, locking down public network access.
  • Terraform — plan/apply workflows, remote state, import blocks, modules, for_each with data-driven tfvars, lifecycle rules, per-environment configuration.
  • GitHub Actions — Terraform plan/apply with approval gates, build/test/deploy pipelines, Git branching and PR review.
  • Containers & Kubernetes — Docker (digest-pinned images, non-root containers), AKS, and core Kubernetes primitives (Deployments, Services, NetworkPolicy, ResourceQuota, ConfigMaps/Secrets).
  • Scripting — Python, PowerShell and Bash for automation; comfortable with HCL and YAML.
  • Identity & security — Microsoft Entra ID (service principals, group-based access), least-privilege Azure RBAC, secrets management (Key Vault, GitHub Secrets), and zero-trust principles.
  • Production troubleshooting — structured root-cause analysis under pressure; able to tell expected behaviour from genuine misconfiguration.
  • Risk awareness — sequences privileged changes safely, builds security gates into plans early, and rehearses changes outside production first.
  • Documentation discipline and a standardisation mindset — turns one-off solutions into reusable patterns.

Desirable

  • Migrating legacy build systems (TeamCity, Octopus Deploy; .NET, C++, Delphi toolchains) onto GitHub Actions.
  • GitOps with ArgoCD, Kustomize and Helm; Kubernetes add-ons such as KEDA, Traefik and Sealed Secrets; Azure Container Registry.
  • Configuration management with Ansible.
  • Building internal developer-platform or self-service deployment tooling.
  • Building internal apps and APIs with Python (Flask, FastAPI).
  • Using AI/LLM APIs (e.g. Anthropic Claude, Azure OpenAI) to speed up engineering work.
  • Exposure to Snowflake or other cloud data platforms.

If you're excited about the role but your experience, skills or qualifications don't perfectly align, we encourage you to apply anyway.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
