About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth and shaping the future of UK finance services.

The Crisis Management Specialist plays a key role in enhancing the FCA’s organisational resilience by translating insights from incidents, exercises, root cause analysis and external best practice into clear capability requirements, the crisis management framework, and targeted improvement activities.

The role is responsible for maintaining and continuously developing crisis management content, overseeing the identification, tracking and delivery of remediation actions, and acting as the sponsor for crisis management learning, capability development and continuous improvement initiatives. Through these activities, the role strengthens the FCA’s ability to anticipate, respond to and recover from disruptive events, while protecting its people, services, reputation and strategic objectives.

Working in partnership with Organisational Capability and other delivery teams, the role ensures crisis management requirements are translated into effective learning solutions and capability-building interventions. In doing so, it builds knowledge, confidence and competence across the organisation, fostering a culture of preparedness, resilience and continuous improvement.

Role responsibilities

  • Translate findings from incidents, exercises, public inquiries and industry best practices into updated exercise objectives, tracking remediation to ensure lessons are embedded into crisis management practices
  • Continuously update and adapt training and capability frameworks to reflect emerging risks, changing organisational priorities and identified capability gaps
  • Work in partnership with the Organisational Capability team to design, implement and continuously improve a structured crisis management capability pathway for response roles
  • Sponsor and facilitate crisis management capability programmes, workshops and awareness sessions, utilising diverse delivery methods including in-person, e-learning, virtual and blended learning
  • Enable and support the evaluation of learner feedback and performance data to continuously measure and improve the effectiveness of training interventions
  • Partner with colleagues across Crisis Management, Operational Resilience and Organisational Capability to ensure a highly coordinated approach to organisational resilience and capability development
  • Serve as an internal specialist, providing strategic advice and guidance to support broader crisis management planning, exercising and response activities
  • Engage with business areas and key subject matter experts to promote awareness of crisis management pathways, encouraging active participation and fostering an organisational culture of preparedness

Skills required

  • In-depth knowledge of crisis management principles, frameworks and best practice, with a thorough understanding of organisational preparedness, response and recovery activities
  • Solid understanding of the Bronze, Silver and Gold crisis management framework and the associated knowledge, skills and behaviours required at each level
  • Experience of contributing to the designing, content and evaluating crisis management capability-building interventions for a range of audiences, including senior leaders and executive teams

Essential:

  • Deep understanding of the FCA’s regulatory role, statutory objectives and decision-making processes to design highly relevant, realistic and priority-aligned crisis management training
  • Deep understanding of the operational interdependencies and alignment between internal Crisis Management Frameworks and the overarching Authorities Response Framework
  • Demonstrated ability to guide through expertise without direct line management authority, bringing together diverse stakeholders to reach shared capability goals
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex, ambiguous information from diverse internal and external sources to synthesise appropriate learning solutions
  • Ability to evaluate emerging issues, balance competing stakeholder requirements and align capability development solutions with overarching organisational priorities
  • Experience in coaching and developing others, with a history of building and developing crisis management and organisational resilience capabilities across a large enterprise

Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Non-contributory pension (8–12% depending on age) and life assurance at eight times your salary
  • Private healthcare with Bupa, income protection and 24/7 Employee Assistance
  • 35 hours of paid volunteering annually
  • Colleagues spend a minimum of 50% of their working time in the office each month (60% for Directors and Executive Directors) across our London, Leeds and Edinburgh offices.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
