Federal Reserve Bank of Boston

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is one of the 12 Federal Reserve Banks that, together with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the Federal Reserve System. We (the “Boston Fed,” the “Bank”) serve the First Federal Reserve District that includes the six New England states: Connecticut (excluding Fairfield County), Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. With the overarching vision of a vibrant economy that works for all, the Boston Fed promotes sound growth and financial stability in our region and the nation and helps to formulate and implement monetary policy. Our contributions to the First District and the nation are founded on high-quality research and bank supervisory activities, excellence in supporting financial services and financial markets stability, leadership in payments innovation, and an active commitment to supporting economic well-being in communities. The Bank holds several key System roles, including leading the Financial Support Office, which directs financial management for the System, including managing the budget and related technology programs. The Bank develops and leads innovative payments programs. One example is the recently launched FedNowSM Service (“FedNow”), a real-time gross payments settlement system. The Bank also played a central leadership role in the Federal Reserve’s crisis responses during both the Great Financial Crisis (2008) and the global pandemic (2020). The Bank is a thought leader and innovator in numerous areas, including financial stability, monetary policy, and community development.

The position will be primarily on-site with residency commutable to our Boston office required.

Reporting to the FRBB CFO, the Director leads a high‑performing team responsible for delivering self‑service analytics, high‑quality applied analytics, and modern data infrastructure. This leader sets vision and architecture; builds a multi‑year roadmap; strengthens the team’s capacity; and operates an engagement model with functional domains across the FRBB. The role is highly cross‑functional and requires strong executive communication and the ability to translate business goals into actionable technical solutions.

Principal Accountabilities

Strategy & Architecture

  • Set and govern reusable patterns for data pipelines, models, and visualizations.
  • Incorporate responsible use of ML/NLP and emerging AI capabilities to improve decision support.

  • Represent D&A to executive leadership with regular progress updates and outcome‑focused narratives.
  • Drive strategic planning meetings and engage stakeholders to clarify business requirements and translate them into deliverables with measurable impact.
  • Present insights and recommendations to Management Council and Executive Committee as needed.

Governance & Data Management

  • Work with and partner with data and technology peers across the Federal Reserve System.
  • Partner with Data Strategy leaders to advance data stewardship, cataloging, and metadata practices.
  • Champion policy compliance (security, privacy, records retention) and audit readiness—including structured end‑of‑life data transfer when solutions are decommissioned.
  • Participate in and influence data‑centric communities of practice and governance forums.

People Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high‑performing talent; set clear goals, operating procedures, and growth plans.
  • Mentor staff on coding standards, statistical methods, product reviews, and best practices.

  • 10+ years in data/analytics, including leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • 5+ years of people leadership with demonstrated ability to attract and develop talent.
  • Advanced proficiency with Python or R; SQL; and modern visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud data services (AWS or Azure), data modeling, and modern ELT/ETL tooling.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
