Federal Reserve Bank of New York

When you work at the New York Fed, you have the opportunity to make an impact in our communities and across the nation. Our mission-driven, curious, and dedicated colleagues apply their diverse perspectives and unique talents to support the strength of the U.S. economy and stability of the global financial system. At the Bank, we work full-time onsite with our teams. We believe being physically together allows us to draw on our collective strengths, while recognizing that the ability to work flexibly from time to time remains important to achieving our mission.

Our Unique Work:

The Data & Statistics Function strengthens the Federal Reserve System's ability to support supervision, monetary policy, and financial stability by modernizing how financial data is collected, governed, and transformed into insight. Our new operating model focuses on standardization, data quality, horizontal analysis, modernization, and expanded analytical capability across all data collections and sites.

In this Team Lead role, you'll combine hands-on ownership of our most complex analytical work with real leadership responsibility—coaching colleagues, coordinating team priorities, and representing the team's work to stakeholders across the Federal Reserve System.

As a Team Lead, you’ll join one of the following four teams.

As part of your application, please indicate your preferred team placement in the cover letter. If you do not have a specific team preference, please indicate no preference in your cover letter and we will review your experience and consider the best team placement during our evaluation process.

  • Bank Holding Company Capital team is responsible for providing data collection, data usability and analytical services to Supervision stakeholders in support of the assessment and continuous monitoring of capital adequacy and the promotion of the safety and soundness of the banking sector and financial stability. This Team Lead will focus on Bank Holding Company regulatory capital and counterparty exposure data.
  • Financial Condition & Structure team is responsible for providing data that supports a wide range of stakeholders in analyzing financial institutions, organizational structure, financial markets, and industry trends. The team oversees the complete data lifecycle—from ingestion through publication—ensuring the delivery of high-quality data that informs critical decisions related to financial institution supervision, bank credit condition analysis, and organizational structure assessment. This team will have two Team Leads with one focusing on Financial Condition and the other on Structure. Having familiarity with reports, procedures, operations, and systems in the respective focus areas is beneficial.
  • Markets & Reserves team is responsible for providing critical operational and analytical services supporting monetary policy operations (market monitoring, reserves analysis, and benchmark reference rates publications) and providing data collection, data usability and analytical services to multiple stakeholders in analyzing financial markets and industry trends. This team will have two Team Leads with one focusing on deposit reporting and the other on primary dealer reporting.
  • Analytics & Operations team is responsible for providing analytical and operational resources to both the Treasury and Markets & Reserves teams, including coding, monitoring, data quality, and operational continuity support for subject matter experts focused on analysis and decision-making. This Team Lead will focus on ensuring the appropriate resources are effectively supporting the Treasury and Markets teams, that the team is enabling cross-team knowledge sharing and adhering to standards for developing consistent tooling.

Your Role as a Team Lead:

As a Team Lead, you will operate with a "player-coach" mindset: contributing directly to our most complex core work while also taking on genuine leadership responsibilities for a small group of colleagues and enabling the success of the team as a whole. The Team Lead role will require a balance of both technical skills and expertise with leadership and coaching ability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate team workflow: Partner with your Manager to set shared vision and team priorities. Prioritize competing responsibilities effectively to meet business needs, coordinate workflow across the team, and proactively escalate issues while maintaining clear, consistent communication with management.
  • Develop and coach others: Share in performance management responsibilities, in partnership with your Manager, by providing performance and development feedback and coaching to a small group of staff (2–4 people).
  • Drive data quality excellence: Independently conduct analysis of complex financial datasets and organizational structure or qualitative data and create visualizations that identify anomalies and trends. Design targeted inquiries that resolve data integrity issues in data series and institutional submissions, particularly for the most complex reporters.
  • Manage data collection operations: Oversee a defined scope of work to ensure timely receipt of all data submissions, monitor collection schedules, and resolve technical submission issues with reporting institutions. Maintain operational controls and a strong control environment to support consistent, reliable data flows.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement: Represent the team's work by building strong working relationships and clear communication channels with key stakeholders that support alignment, timely issue resolution, and successful delivery of operational outcomes.
  • Participate in cross-functional workgroups: Contribute to Function and System workgroups, sharing insights and supporting initiatives that advance data collection and analysis capabilities.
  • Partner with financial institutions: Lead ongoing dialogue with financial institutions to enhance data quality frameworks and strengthen internal controls. Provide guidance on technical reporting requirements, submission processes, and regulatory interpretation.
  • Deliver actionable insights: Integrate with the Horizontal Analysis team to synthesize multiple data sources and institutional relationships of varying sizes and complexity to produce evidence-based analyses that inform policy decisions and operational improvements across the Federal Reserve System.
  • Champion innovation: Drive continuous improvement by actively contributing to automation initiatives and emerging technology solutions that modernize our technology platform, increase operational efficiency, and scale our analytical capabilities, while fostering a culture of ongoing enhancement across the team.
  • Research and resolve reporting issues: Investigate complex reporting inquiries and technical issues, proposing sound conclusions based on regulatory guidance and industry best practices. Assess and respond to stakeholder requests on data collection operations and institutional reporting practices.

The Unique Skill Sets We're Looking For:

  • Experience in a financial, economic, regulatory reporting, or analytic role, with demonstrated technical expertise paired with strong learning agility.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential (formally or informally), including the ability to coach and develop colleagues, foster a positive and inclusive team culture, and model sound judgment in conflict management.
  • Strong skills in managing and prioritizing multiple, competing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail and operational excellence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex technical concepts to varied audiences and represent team outcomes to stakeholders and partners.
  • Effective collaboration across teams and departments.
  • Familiarity with technical tools used by your team (e.g., Python, SQL, R, or similar programming languages).
  • Curiosity about analytical innovation and eagerness to learn and apply emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
