Company

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco

We are the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco — public servants with a mission to advance the nation’s monetary, financial, and payment systems to build a stronger economy for all Americans. As part of the nation’s central bank, we are committed to understanding and serving the vibrant, expansive communities of the Twelfth District, which covers the nine western states of the U.S. That means we seek and appreciate new perspectives and build opportunities to learn and grow. At the SF Fed, we approach our work with integrity and a commitment to service.

The Supervision Group is responsible for the supervision and regulation of state member banks (SMBs), bank holding companies, savings and loan holding companies, financial holding companies, bank service providers, trust companies, and foreign banking organizations that are headquartered in the Twelfth District. Supervised institutions range in size and complexity from small community organizations to some of the largest banking organizations in the country.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Business Analyst within Business Operations and Strategy. The Sr. Business Analyst will provide operational and administrative support to bank examination teams and develop MIS reporting and analysis to drive decisions on group operations, planning, and business issues. In addition, the Sr. Business Analyst will use business knowledge and analytical abilities to evaluate existing processes, provide recommendations on operational optimization and quality improvement initiatives, and lead the implementation of solutions, including automation and emerging technologies such as AI. This is a versatile role with responsibilities that will grow as process improvements take hold.

Our ideal candidate has extensive experience as a business analyst, strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You have deep experience gathering requirements, process mapping, and creating operational improvements, and you have used automation, dashboards, and emerging technology, including AI, to improve how work gets done. You communicate well in writing and in person, collaborate effectively across teams, and drive a culture of continuous quality improvement. You are adaptable and committed to team continuity.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and administrative support throughout the exam life cycle, including formatting supervisory documents, document management, tracking results, and data entry and verification of exam content across multiple applications.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to map current processes, identify key controls, roles, bottlenecks, and difficulties, and define and implement improved processes.
  • Streamline and automate manual work using Microsoft tools such as Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Evaluate AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) for practical use cases, recommend where they add value, and help prepare the team for responsible adoption.
  • Gather business requirements, then design and build dashboards (Tableau or Power BI) and MIS reporting. Analyze data and metrics to uncover insights and trends.
  • Coordinate projects and activities to address business needs and monitor metrics to ensure project effectiveness.
  • Lead change management efforts to drive adoption of new technologies and processes, and assess the impact of upcoming technology and business changes on the team.
  • Design and deliver training and materials for internal and external partners.
  • Write, update, and maintain team procedures as the business changes, and contribute to the unit's internal procedures tool.
  • Strengthen team continuity through cross-training, documentation, and backup coverage, and mentor interns and team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in business requirements gathering, process mapping, process improvement, and/or analytics.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Visio, and SQL, plus Power Apps or Power Automate.
  • Project coordination experience.
  • Experience building dashboards in Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience collecting, transforming, analyzing, and reporting data to drive decisions.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and communicating moderate to complex information to broad audiences.
  • Ability to execute consistently amid changing priorities, and to handle confidential information.
  • Will and able to travel up to 5%.
  • This position requires access to confidential supervisory information, which is limited to “Protected Individuals.” Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents who are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization, and U.S. permanent residents who have applied for naturalization within six months of being eligible to do so or who will sign a declaration of intent to apply for naturalization before they begin employment.

Preferred

  • Financial institution supervision experience and knowledge of Federal Reserve System activities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot or similar AI assistants.
  • Quality improvement training or certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma).
  • Working knowledge of AI tools, or hands-on experience applying them to improve work processes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
