Control and organize the design quality work at the project level, ensuring the DQMP is implemented and that submittals are complete, checked and certified before issue and delivered in line with the approved project schedule. Coordinate design quality with the D&C Contractor, the design and QA firms, the Developer and the DOT, complementing the contractual design quality roles.

Job Duties

  • Lead the development, implementation, maintenance and update of the Design Quality Management Plan (DQMP), and provide quality-related input to other project management plans and procedures as required.
  • Ensure design quality procedures and review standards are established, implemented and maintained; oversee implementation of the approved DQMP in the performance of the Work and ensure it is updated as needed or as required by the contract.
  • Ensure training and workshops are provided to all personnel involved in or affected by the DQMP.
  • Monitor that design quality reviews are performed by qualified staff independent from production, with auditable records.
  • Track design quality reviews to make sure they finish before each scheduled submittal.
  • Verify that design submittals (reports, preliminary/final/RFC documents, Shop Drawings, FDCs, NDCs, Record Design Documents) meet the DQMP and Contract Documents, with certificates in place.
  • Track DOT, Developer and QA comments to closure, including disputed ones; support cross-discipline, constructability and maintainability reviews.
  • Coordinate with D&C design management, technical office, construction and document control on drawings and revisions; incorporate RFIs and design changes into Record Drawings.
  • Coordinate with the Developer's quality team, the DOT (design and over-the-shoulder reviews, audits, meetings) and the independent quality firm, where engaged.
  • Assist with design NCRs, corrective/preventive actions, and internal and Developer/DOT design audits to close-out.
  • Prepare monthly design quality reports, metrics and the QMS Review Report; maintain design quality records.
  • Work across disciplines on needs and process improvements; any other reasonable request by management.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Science or equivalent required.
  • PE licensure preferred. EIT candidates pursuing licensure will also be considered.
  • 5+ years in a related role, transportation design or heavy civil; DB/P3 design or design quality experience preferred.
  • ASQ certification and familiarity with ISO 9001 concepts preferred.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bluebeam Revu, databases and document control systems (e.g., Procore).
  • Knowledge of state DOT specifications, standards and design review procedures valuable.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Career Development:

  • This role offers broad exposure to all design disciplines and a strong foundation in design-build delivery, with the opportunity for internal transfer to the D&C design team, subject to performance and business needs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
