About the Role

We are seeking a Finance Project Manager to support and coordinate strategic finance and accounting initiatives across our organization and client companies. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role for someone who combines a strong foundation in finance or accounting with practical project management skills and a high degree of curiosity and initiative.

You will serve as a key liaison between leadership, internal teams, and client organizations-helping turn business needs into clearly defined projects, coordinating the right resources, and ensuring initiatives move forward effectively.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, asking questions, gathering information, and engaging directly with stakeholders at all levels. You don't need to be a traditional project manager or hold a PMP certification, but you should have demonstrated experience managing projects and bringing people together to get things done.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Accounting Project Management

  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional finance and accounting projects from initial requirements gathering through implementation.
  • Work with client stakeholders and internal finance teams to understand business needs, identify requirements, and define project objectives.
  • Coordinate resources across both client organizations and internal teams to keep projects moving forward.
  • Translate business requirements into clear project plans, action items, and deliverables, then coordinate handoffs to finance and accounting leadership for execution.
  • Track project progress, identify potential issues or roadblocks, and proactively follow up to keep initiatives on schedule.
  • Support projects such as accounting system and process changes, QuickBooks restructuring, sales tax technology implementations, reporting improvements, and other finance-related initiatives.

Leadership & Stakeholder Support

  • Serve as a trusted extension of finance leadership, providing visibility into operational activities and projects across client organizations.
  • Attend meetings and discussions on behalf of finance leadership when needed, including operational, pricing, and cross-functional meetings.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across client organizations and internal teams to gather information and facilitate collaboration.
  • Capture, organize, and synthesize information from meetings and conversations, providing leadership with concise summaries, key decisions, risks, and recommended follow-up actions.
  • Act as a central point of coordination between leadership, clients, and internal finance/accounting resources.

Analysis & Process Improvement

  • Work with financial and operational data to identify trends, issues, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Use Excel and business intelligence tools to organize and analyze information and support decision-making.
  • Leverage emerging AI tools and technologies to improve research, analysis, documentation, and project execution.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, reporting, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of professional experience, preferably in finance, accounting, or a related business function.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects or initiatives involving multiple stakeholders or teams.
  • Strong understanding of finance and/or accounting concepts and business processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a genuine interest in working with data.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working with large or complex datasets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both individual contributors and senior leadership.
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Comfortable asking questions, seeking out information, and proactively engaging stakeholders to move projects forward.

Preferred

  • Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting/ERP systems.
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Experience working on finance, accounting, ERP, systems implementation, or process-improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with modern AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working in a professional services, consulting, or multi-client environment.

You can work independently while also knowing when to bring in leadership or subject-matter experts. You don't necessarily need to be the most extroverted person in the room, but you should have the confidence and presence to represent finance leadership, participate in important discussions, and build credibility with clients and colleagues.

We value strong financial or accounting fundamentals, project management ability, analytical thinking, curiosity, and the capacity to learn.

Success in This Role

In this role, success means giving finance leadership greater visibility and leverage across the organization and client companies. You'll help ensure that important initiatives don't get stuck, the right people are involved at the right time, and leadership has a clear understanding of what is happening across the business.
