The posting

Sr. Commercial Relationship Manager, Team Lead -Austin, TX

FinTrust Connect has been engaged on a confidential search to identify a Commercial Banking Team Lead in Austin, TX for a rapidly growing regional bank client. This is a senior player-coach seat: the right candidate carries a personal book of commercial relationships, leads a small team of Relationship Managers, and earns an override on the team's production. Ideal for a seasoned Austin banker with a portable customer base, a strong COI network, and prior team leadership experience — or a top individual producer ready to step up and bring one or two RMs with them.

Why this opportunity

  • Culture: Relationship-driven, community-rooted, long-tenured team environment. This is a growth-mode organization that has retained its senior producers.
  • Workplace: Hybrid — Austin, TX. Reasonable flexibility for producing team leads.
  • Function: Lead a small commercial banking team (typically 2–3 RMs), continue producing personally, and drive lower middle-market C&I plus commercial real estate growth across the Austin metro.
  • Platform: Aggressive organic-growth thesis backed by real balance sheet, hiring budget, and one of the more competitive incentive plans in the regional bank space. Support model includes dedicated Credit PMs, portfolio specialists, loan assistants, and credit analysts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years commercial banking, commercial lending, or relationship management experience with a proven personal production track record.
  • Previous team leadership, player-coach, or lift-out experience preferred. Strong individual producers ready to step up will be considered.
  • Portable customer base and demonstrated COI network in the Austin metro.
  • Strong C&I lending experience with privately held businesses in the lower middle market (typically under $100M revenue), or commercial real estate expertise.
  • Credit analysis, underwriting, loan structuring, and portfolio management fluency.
  • Deep familiarity with the Austin market — decision-makers, industries, and referral ecosystem.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, banking, or a related field. Graduate school of banking is a plus.

What you'll do

  • Carry a personal book of commercial lending and deposit relationships. Continue producing at a senior level while leading.
  • Manage 2–3 Relationship Managers on your team. Coach, review pipeline, drive accountability, and step in on complex deals.
  • Coordinate with the broader commercial team, treasury management, wealth, mortgage, and retail partners to deliver an integrated client experience.
  • Structure C&I and CRE credit for privately held companies, real estate developers and acquirers, and professional-services businesses.
  • Build and maintain a strong COI network with attorneys, CPAs, brokers, and community leaders to drive quality introductions.
  • Represent the bank in the Austin market at the senior banker level.
  • Own credit quality, documentation, and compliance across the team's portfolio.

Where the market opportunity is

  • Central and West Austin are already well covered. Growth pockets include South Austin (Kyle, San Marcos), Cedar Park and Leander to the north, and East Austin (Bastrop, Taylor) driven by the Samsung, Tesla, Amazon, and Apple ancillary development ecosystem.
  • Lower middle-market C&I is the sweet spot — service companies, high-growth private businesses, HVAC/plumbing/electrical, GCs, landscaping, and other operating businesses under approximately $100M in revenue.
  • Commercial real estate remains a core competency given Austin's growth trajectory and the bank's balance sheet appetite.
  • This is not a "whale hunter" seat — large-cap C&I over approximately $100M in revenue is handled by a separate group.

Compensation and structure

  • Competitive and market-leading. Base, meaningful annual bonus tied to production and portfolio metrics, plus team-lead override on the RMs under you.
  • Sign-on packages available for the right profile, including structured forgivable-loan mechanics designed to bridge deferred comp and any prior-year bonus walkaway.
  • Long-term incentives available for seasoned team leaders.
  • The right conversation matters more than any published band. If your background, book, COI engine, and leadership track record align with the seat, let's have a conversation before you screen this out on comp.

Existing employment agreements

If you're currently operating under a non-solicitation, non-compete, or similar restrictive agreement, let's talk. Every situation is different, and we work with candidates confidentially to understand your specific constraints and explore what pathway makes sense. The client is thoughtful about these situations and open to structures that work for high-quality hires. Candidates are always advised to review their own agreements with independent legal counsel before making any move.

What we're not looking for

  • Whale hunters chasing $100M+ revenue clients — that's a different team.
  • Active-lookers with no portable book, no COI network, or exaggerated production claims.
  • Analysts or portfolio-only professionals without a direct customer-facing production history.

Next step

Confidential 20–30 minute conversation with a FinTrust Connect banking specialist. Bank identity, comp specifics, and reporting structure are shared in stages as fit is confirmed. Reach out for a call.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
