Company Overview

Fixins Soul Kitchen seeks to redefine the American soul food experience. We are full-service restaurants that uniquely combine traditional soul food with outstanding service and hip, energetic dining environments. Founded by former NBA All Star Kevin Johnson and his wife, Michelle, Fixins’ menu is rooted in the Southern recipes passed down through generations from Kevin’s family and friends. Established in 2019 with the flagship store in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento, CA, Fixins is rapidly expanding. With additional current locations in Los Angeles (at the Staples Center), Tulsa (Black Wall Street), Detroit (Harmonie Park) and 6 new stores planned to open in the in next 2 years, we are seeking team members at all levels to join us in our goal of becoming the largest Black owned restaurant group in the nation.

Program Summary

Fixins’ Summer Internship Program is your chance to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, preparing you for a future in the restaurant industry. We are looking for students with a drive to learn about restaurant operations and an obsession with delicious food, on-point service, spotless stores, tight operations and community love.

Our Restaurant Management Summer Internship is a hands-on experience exposing interns to all areas of restaurant operations with a focus on key service areas. Interns will also shadow the General Manager to gain knowledge and practice in the following areas:

  • Operations & Compliance: Get hands on experience in adhering to all policies, procedures, and industry regulations while maintaining high standards in food preparation, service, and facility upkeep.
  • Financial Management: Build expertise in building budgets, monitoring financial performance, controlling costs, and driving year-over-year sales growth.
  • Team Leadership: Learn how to recruit, train, and retain staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment through coaching and development.
  • Guest Experience: Develop skills in exceptional customer service, prompt issue resolution, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests.
  • Efficiency & Oversight: Get hands on training in managing staffing levels, overseeing cash handling, maintaining equipment, and ensuring timely completion of reports and schedules.
  • Intern placements are based on fit and assigned to one of our restaurants nationwide
  • Competitive compensation (average of $1,000 per week, varies by location)
  • Full-time summer opportunity with flexibility on start and end dates
  • This internship is structured around your academic calendar and is designed to support and not interfere with your academic commitments.
  • The program is limited to the timeframe necessary to fulfill your educational objectives, as outlined by your university or college.
  • Academic credit is required as a condition of participation. Interns must coordinate with their academic advisor or internship office to ensure credit is granted. (Students should verify this with their school before starting.)
  • The internship provides training similar to that offered in an educational environment, with an emphasis on supervision, feedback, and skill development.
  • The intern’s work will be designed to complement, not replace, the work of paid employees, ensuring the focus remains on learning and growth.
  • Both the intern and Fixins Soul Kitchen understand that there is no guarantee or entitlement to a paid job at the conclusion of the internship.

Qualifications

  • Previous restaurant experience may be helpful but is not a requirement
  • Drive to learn about restaurant operations and an obsession with delicious food, on-point service, spotless stores, tight operations, and community love.
  • Willingness to relocate for the summer internship. (Sacramento, Los Angeles, Tulsa, or Detroit)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
