Job Description:

The Group

Strategic Advisers, LLC (SAI) is a registered investment advisor and Fidelity Investments Company that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 30 years, Strategic Advisers, LLC has specialized in the investment management of managed accounts and other custom solutions to help investors reach their financial goals. With more than $1.4 trillion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, Fidelity’s Strategic Advisers, LLC is a leading provider of managed solutions for retail, workplace, and institutional clients.

The Role

The Quantitative Taxable team within the Quantitative Research group is responsible for the research and development of the investment methodologies that enable SAI to manage personalized client portfolios at scale. The team focuses on using quantitative portfolio construction methods to develop methodology for asset location, multi-account optimization, tax-loss harvesting, and other tax management and goal-based wealth management strategies, bridging product development, fundamental and quantitative research, investment management and technology. As SAI continues to grow and manage increasingly complex goals and portfolios, the Quantitative Taxable team will play a key role in improving and building the new portfolio construction methodologies, tools, and workflows that are needed.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design and prototype quantitative investment techniques and methodologies to support multi-asset class model and portfolio construction, including optimization tuning and quality metrics.
  • Help evolve the next generation of tax-smart techniques to manage portfolios for taxable clients, taking into consideration asset allocation and asset location in a multi-asset and multi-account framework.
  • Collaborate with portfolio management, research and portfolio engineering teams to enhance the existing portfolio construction processes for both single and multi-account solutions, as well as innovative approaches for unified managed households.
  • Design and back-test strategies, run simulations and perform risk and after-tax analyses.
  • Look for opportunities to improve investment management efficiency and effectiveness (e.g., scale, process, client outcomes) and help maintain and improve the infrastructure supporting investment research and processes.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and portfolio construction techniques with potential to improve investment outcomes.

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of research experience in roles requiring quantitative research, portfolio construction, and technical skills, ideally for a multi-asset class investment process.
  • Exposure to quantitative portfolio construction across multiple asset classes, including optimization techniques, tax-sensitive investment management, and portfolio analysis.
  • Graduate degree in related fields such as Finance, Quantitative Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research, Decision Science, or Computer Science.
  • CFA or related investment certifications are preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Solid skills in programming (Python, R), data access (SQL), version control, and data visualization/BI tools.
  • Exposure to quantitative portfolio construction methods, optimization techniques, tax-sensitive investment management and portfolio analysis, including quantitative portfolio tools such as Barra, Axioma and FactSet; exposure to operations research and agentic artificial intelligence preferred.
  • Analytical and architecture-oriented attitude, ability to visualize patterns and abstract problems, and to collaborate with technology to evolve the investment platform.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, particularly in translating complex quantitative analysis into meaningful and applicable investment solutions.
  • Ability to work across the organization in various disciplines to drive consensus/closure; strong collaboration and influence skills.
  • Creative, innovative thinker with intellectual curiosity and the motivation to learn and grow; willingness to identify and present new research ideas.
  • Genuine passion for financial markets and innovation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
