The posting

The opportunity

Are you curious about ship performance, data and decarbonisation in shipping?

Join our Fleet Performance and Energy Efficiency team and get hands-on experience analysing real vessel performance challenges. You’ll work with Excel, Python and large datasets, develop your analytical skills alongside experienced colleagues, and contribute to solutions that can help accelerate maritime decarbonisation.

Who we are

We’re the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, an independent, not-for-profit research and development center working to decarbonize global shipping. Our team unites experts from many fields – engineers, economists, analysts, software developers and more – who share a passion for making a real difference. We’re based in Copenhagen but collaborate globally.

Who you are

You’re a sharp, analytical, and curious mind who loves connecting the dots, learning fast, and asking the right questions.

You’re studying engineering, preferably Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or similar in or near Copenhagen, and you are comfortable with data and problem-solving. We care less how far you are in your studies – what matters are your abilities and drive. You enjoy tackling complex problems, adapting quickly to new information, and sharing clear insights.

What you’ll do

You will join our Fleet Performance and Energy Efficiency team and you will be supported by our Fleet Transition colleagues. We tackle a variety of projects – like developing best practice methods for quantifying the impact of energy efficiency measures onboard ships or recommending data driven regulations on energy efficiency.

In our daily work, we typically use:

  • Excel for simpler modeling and data crunching.
  • PowerPoint for presenting insights to stakeholders.
  • Python – for the analysis of complex and large data sets.

Specifically, you will:

  • Investigate vessel performance challenges: Dive into data, answer key questions, and present concise findings.
  • Lead analytics tasks from start to finish: Tackle analytics projects end to end – from scoping tasks to delivering clear insights.
  • Be involved in workshops with partners from the maritime ecosystem
  • Grow with mentorship: Work closely with our team members, share results with stakeholders, and develop your analytical and communication skills along the way.

Why join us

We aim for a supportive, friendly environment where collaboration thrives. We are proud of our mission to accelerate the maritime industry’s transition towards a greener future. You will have room to explore, learn, and do your best work – plus, we like to have fun along the way. You will join our network of other student assistants and work flexible hours (around 15–20 per week) that respect your exam schedule. As you develop your skills with us, you will see your work make a genuine impact, gaining hands-on experience in analytics and problem-solving.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
