This field-based position will play an important role in promoting a strong safety culture across substation construction projects and worksites, providing guidance to field personnel, supporting regulatory and client compliance, and driving continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance.

Working closely with Operations and project management teams, the Safety Advisor will serve as a key resource for field employees and leadership, helping ensure substation construction activities are planned and executed safely in accordance with company, client and regulatory requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional with experience in electrical utility construction, particularly substation construction and high-voltage environments, who enjoys being actively engaged in the field and working directly with construction crews and operational teams. The initial 10-month contract also offers the potential for additional project work and future opportunities with Forbes Bros Timberline.

  • Provide practical health and safety guidance to field employees, Foremen and Supervisors to ensure substation construction activities are performed safely and in accordance with company, client and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct and support hazard assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations and compliance reviews, identifying risks and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop, review and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA), safe work procedures, hazard assessments and other project-specific safety documentation as required.
  • Work with clients and project teams to develop and maintain Project Safety Plans, Hazard/Risk Registries, JSA documentation and safety audit requirements.
  • Lead and participate in tailboard meetings, safety orientations, toolbox talks and safety training initiatives to promote awareness and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Maintain a strong field presence by regularly engaging with workers and supervisors, identifying potential hazards, addressing safety concerns and providing real-time guidance.
  • Monitor and support safety performance, including training compliance, incident prevention, corrective actions and implementation of project and corporate safety initiatives.
  • Support workplace injury management processes, including Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims and related reporting and follow-up requirements.
  • Communicate and escalate incidents, client safety concerns, regulatory involvement and emerging risks to appropriate company leadership and operational management.
  • Collaborate with field personnel, Operations and project management to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, strengthen safety practices and enhance overall project performance.
  • Assist with the development of safety performance measures, safety communications, lessons learned and reporting to support the implementation of the Forbes Bros Group HSE Strategic Business Plan.

What You’ll Bring

  • 3 to 5 years of dedicated, full-time experience working in a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) role.
  • Experience in electrical utility construction, particularly substation construction, electrical infrastructure or high-voltage environments, is preferred.
  • Previous experience or a background in Quality Control (QC), quality assurance, inspections or compliance within construction or utility projects is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Journeyman Lineman or Apprentice Lineman is considered an asset.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • BCSP certification or a comparable professional health and safety designation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, industry standards, hazard identification, risk assessments, incident investigation and safe work practices.
  • Experience developing and reviewing Job Safety Analysis (JSA), safe work procedures, Project Safety Plans, hazard assessments and other safety documentation.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence safe behaviours and engage effectively with employees at all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver safety training, prepare reports, develop safety communications and document incident investigations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
  • Proficiency with common computer applications and the ability to develop training materials, safety communications, reports and performance data.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment and take ownership of health and safety initiatives with minimal direction.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driver's abstract.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
