In this position...

This position will be responsible for updating, developing and maintaining our entire Ford Racing library of DiL simulator tracks to ensure they match the real world as closely as possible. We’re looking for a bright and self-motivated individual to help catapult our DiL (Driver in the Loop) simulator program to the next level, where a single tool can be used to support all our racing programs (ie. NASCAR, SportsCar, WRC, Off-Road, Electrified Demonstrators, etc.), as well as our production car programs (ie. Mustang, Raptor, etc.). This position will be responsible for updating, developing and maintaining our entire library of DiL simulator tracks to ensure they match the real world as closely as possible. This opportunity is a golden ticket for periodic travel to the various racing circuits and testing facilities across the country to collect first-hand information and apply your learnings digitally to our simulator tracks.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do…

  • Collect Information: Work directly with sanctioning bodies of our various race series, track & facilities management, and travel to locations as needed to collect information which will be used to improve the accuracy of our simulator tracks library.
  • Utilize & Develop CAE Tools: Utilize commercially available and proprietary tools to implement learnings directly to our tracks libraries. Contribute to the development and maintenance of our DiL Simulator track manipulation tools, continuously adding capability and efficiency to the process.
  • Close the Gap Between the Real World and Simulation: Understand the unique physical aspects of vehicles and develop solutions to replicate those attributes in the simulation environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain a database for our library of tracks, organize and archive supporting documentation in a logical manner for efficient user access.
  • Team Player: Work directly with colleagues from our various divisions to help tie together the individual components (ie. Aero, Powertrain, Chassis, Race Team Strategy, etc.) which comprise a successful simulator program.

Qualifications

You’ll Have…

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Mechanical, Computer or Electrical Engineering
  • 1 + years programming languages for data processing and tool automation (MATLAB, Simulink, C++, Visual Basic, Python, Java, etc.)
  • Passion for Motorsports
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Even Better, If You Have...

  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Computer or Electrical Engineering with a focus on Vehicle Dynamics or Control Systems
  • Experience with computer-based race gaming, along with having developed custom tracks, vehicle models and liveries
  • 2+ years of Automotive Vehicle Dynamics, CAE, and/or DiL Simulator experience, with an emphasis on performance or racing vehicle design and modeling
  • 2+ years of experience using parametric and/or multi-body dynamics tools like Dymola, CarSim, VI-CarRealTime, ADAMS, ADAMS Car, AVL or similar software packag
  • Participation in Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Robotics or professional motorsports engineering experience modeling various aspects of race car vehicle dynamics.
  • A personal passion for track driving or off-roading, with an ability to subjectively evaluate vehicle handling limits

This position is a salary grade 5 and ranges from $65,100-$109,300., This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300-$124,500., This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900., This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value. Internal applicants: moving into this role may result in an adjustment to your current compensation based on the posted pay range for this role, taking into consideration your qualifications and other relevant factors.
