About The Role:

The GMP Equipment Monitoring Technician – 3rd shift role, plays a critical role in maintaining manufacturing readiness and operational continuity in a GMP-regulated AAV gene therapy environment. This position is responsible for monitoring complex manufacturing equipment such as bioreactors and chromatography skids, supporting facility monitoring activities, maintaining cleanroom readiness, and assisting with equipment and manufacturing area setup and cleanup. This role ensures that equipment and facility conditions remain within operational standards while supporting day-to-day GMP manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and support operation of complex GMP manufacturing equipment, including bioreactors and chromatography skids, ensuring systems remain within defined operating parameters.
  • Perform routine facility and equipment monitoring activities, documenting status and alarms in accordance with GMP requirements and SOPs.
  • Support manufacturing operations by assisting with operations extending into night shift; equipment setup, changeover, and cleanup activities before and after production runs.
  • Stock, stage, and organize materials, consumables, and supplies required for manufacturing operations to ensure readiness and efficiency.
  • Support Facilities and Engineering (F&E) activities, including coordination of equipment readiness, maintenance support, and escalation of issues as needed.
  • Assist in troubleshooting routine equipment and facility issues and escalate complex problems to appropriate technical or engineering teams.
  • Maintain accurate and timely GMP documentation, including logbooks, monitoring records, and manufacturing support documentation.
  • Collaborate with GMP Manufacturing, F&E, Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Control (QC) teams to support production continuity and compliance.
  • Follow GMP gowning requirements and cleanroom protocols to maintain contamination control standards.
  • May assist in continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, cleanroom efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in a scientific or engineering-related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment within a manufacturing, laboratory, or other regulated environment.
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment issues in a timely manner.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve equipment performance issues efficiently.
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to detail for maintaining logbooks, audit records, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams, including Process Development, Quality, Facilities & Engineering.
  • Ability to work in loud noise environments and in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Clean Room gowning attire as needed.
  • Ability to work flexible 3rd shift hours, typically between 9pm and 7am, based on GMP production run schedules.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to GMP-regulated cell or gene therapy manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting Facilities & Engineering (F&E) activities or maintenance coordination.
  • Understanding of alarm monitoring, equipment status tracking, and manufacturing readiness workflows.
  • Experience with cleanroom cleaning, staging, and material handling in a regulated environment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position works in both a laboratory environment and a typical office environment where the physical work demands will vary depending on the specific tasks and duties required of the job. The employee will be stationary (standing/sitting) for extended periods of time. Employees regularly wear personal protective equipment based on the task being performed. Must be able to work in a confined space, such as a clean room or laboratory environment. Ability to identify small details within the field of vision, distinguish between different colors, and accurately identify objects within a specific area.
