About the Fellowship

Fortius Clinic is pleased to offer an exceptional Clinical and Research Fellowship in Complex Knee Surgery. This six-month

(July 5th - Dec 21st 2027) fellowship provides advanced subspecialty training in knee surgery, combining high-volume clinical exposure with dedicated research opportunities.

The successful Fellow will work closely with the Knee Unit consultants at Fortius Clinic, gaining exposure to all aspects of modern knee reconstruction. All consultants perform robot-assisted knee arthroplasty, with many specialising in soft tissue knee surgery, and two consultants holding specialist expertise in revision knee arthroplasty.

The fellowship is designed to prepare candidates for a future career as a specialist knee surgeon. By the end of the programme, the Fellow should be able to confidently plan and undertake knee arthroplasty procedures with appropriate supervision while developing expertise in robotic-assisted techniques and complex knee pathology.

There is no on-call commitment and no trauma service requirement, allowing the Fellow to focus exclusively on elective knee surgery and academic development.

What You Will Gain

During the fellowship, you will gain exposure to:

  • Robotic-assisted primary knee arthroplasty
  • Revision knee arthroplasty
  • Soft tissue knee surgery, including ligament reconstruction
  • Patellofemoral surgery
  • Osteotomy procedures
  • Pre-operative planning and surgical decision-making
  • Multidisciplinary case discussions
  • Clinical research and audit methodology

A successful Fellow is expected to progress towards becoming a fully certified MAKO surgeon during the programme.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

The Fellow will:

  • Undertake daily assessment and management of inpatients under the care of their named consultants.
  • Attend elective operating lists, ward rounds and, where appropriate, outpatient clinics.
  • Assist consultants during operative procedures and contribute to patient care throughout their treatment journey.
  • Participate in supervised surgical procedures where appropriate.

This fellowship is primarily an observational and training post, with the emphasis on learning through close mentorship and assisting consultants during operative cases. Any independent surgical activity will only be undertaken with the supervising consultant present and directly supporting the Fellow.

Data Collection & Outcomes Monitoring

The Fellow will support the collection of high-quality clinical outcomes data within the Knee Unit, ensuring information is gathered consistently and comprehensively to support service evaluation and research activity.

Research

Fortius Clinic has a strong academic reputation and an active programme of orthopaedic research.

The successful candidate will:

  • Complete and write up at least two original research projects in knee surgery.
  • Prepare at least one review article for publication.
  • Attend regular research meetings and present project progress.
  • Work closely with the Knee Research Lead and Research Coordinator.
  • Utilise dedicated research time built into the fellowship timetable.

Clinical Audit

The Fellow will participate in clinical audit projects aimed at improving patient outcomes, service delivery and clinical practice.

Multidisciplinary Team Meetings

The Fellow will be encouraged to attend the monthly Knee MDT meetings covering:

  • Arthroplasty surgery
  • Soft tissue knee surgery

These meetings provide valuable opportunities to discuss complex and interesting cases with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Appraisal and Development

A structured appraisal process will support the Fellow's development throughout the programme, including:

  • Initial goal-setting meeting and appraisal
  • Mid-point review
  • Final appraisal prior to fellowship completion

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
