Established in 1999, Freire Schools (www.freireschools.org) is a network of four charter schools across Philadelphia and Delaware whose mission is to prepare students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. About the team

For this High School English Teacher position, you’ll be working for our high school in north Philadelphia called TECH Freire Charter School (9th-12th Grade): Freire Schools’ established rigorous college-prep high school program is infused with technology and entrepreneurship education to unlock creativity and potential in our students. We have a culture that demands excellence from our students while providing them the supports they need to achieve at high levels and prepare for college. TECH Freire’s Class of 2025 included 88 graduates, with 89% accepted to four-year colleges and universities. Together, they earned $9.4 million in scholarships and will attend more than 100 unique colleges across the country. Be a part of this incredible community!

What you’ll do

As a member of Freire’s instructional team, you will implement high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum to drive rigorous instruction, critical thinking, and high achievement in your classroom, while remaining open to feedback and instructional coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a classroom environment grounded in critical thinking, academic rigor, mutual respect, and high expectations for all students.
  • Implement high-quality, content-specific curriculum and design instructional materials that promote deep thinking and problem-solving.
  • Maintain consistent, proactive communication with families regarding student progress and relevant school updates.
  • Engage fully in professional development and collaborate closely with colleagues to best support student learning and growth.
  • Teachers hired at Freire Charter High School (20th & Chestnut St.) have the opportunity to be CREW Leaders and will co-lead a class focusing on SEL and community building twice a week.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid state teaching certification, or a clear ability and commitment to obtain certification
  • Strong content-area knowledge and instructional skill
  • Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a work ethic and collaborative spirit
  • Minimum of two years of successful experience working with diverse student populations

Pay and benefits

Salaries for certified teachers entering their first year start at $60,000, with an overall salary range of $50,000–$85,000 based on experience and qualifications. Freire Schools offers a competitive compensation package, comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% employer contribution for Pennsylvania employees, and a strong commitment to developing all staff as professionals while working with exceptional students in Philadelphia.
