About the Role

To manage end-to-end technical sourcing, supplier development, cost optimization, and procurement execution for manufacturing components and assemblies, ensuring the availability of quality materials at competitive costs within the required delivery timelines.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, supplier capabilities, costing, and cross-functional coordination with Production, Process Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Design Engineering.

Location Requirement: The selected candidate will be based at the Fuller Technologies manufacturing facility in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. The role requires regular coordination with Production, Process Engineering, Quality, and Planning teams, along with supplier visits, supplier development activities, and technical-commercial evaluations.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

A. Technical Sourcing & Procurement

  • Source mechanical, fabricated, machined, cast, electrical, and bought-out components based on engineering drawings, BOMs, and project requirements.
  • Review technical specifications, material grades, manufacturing feasibility, and supplier capabilities before RFQ release.
  • Prepare RFQs, obtain competitive quotations, conduct technical-commercial evaluations, and negotiate prices.
  • Ensure timely PO placement aligned with manufacturing and project schedules.
  • Monitor supplier commitments and expedite critical material deliveries.
  • Identify alternative suppliers and materials without compromising technical requirements or quality.

B. Supplier Development & Evaluation

  • Identify, develop, and qualify suppliers for fabrication, machining, casting, forging, sheet metal, surface treatment, and industrial components.
  • Conduct supplier capability assessments covering machinery, manufacturing processes, capacity, quality systems, and delivery performance.
  • Develop suppliers near the manufacturing facility to improve delivery responsiveness and reduce logistics costs.
  • Support supplier audits in coordination with Quality and Process Engineering.
  • Maintain an approved supplier database and identify single-source procurement risks.
  • Drive supplier performance improvement through structured review meetings and corrective actions.

C. Cost Estimation & Cost Reduction

  • Prepare should-cost estimates from engineering drawings, raw-material weights, manufacturing operations, machining hours, processing costs, and overheads.
  • Validate supplier quotations against historical purchase prices, market benchmarks, and process-based cost estimates.
  • Negotiate competitive commercial terms, including payment terms, freight, tooling, and development charges.
  • Execute value engineering and value analysis initiatives with Design, Production, and Process Engineering.
  • Identify opportunities for raw-material standardization, localization, and supplier consolidation.
  • Monitor and report realized procurement savings and cost avoidance.

D. In-House vs. Outsourcing Assessment

  • Evaluate whether components should be manufactured in-house or outsourced based on technical capability, machine availability, capacity, manufacturing cost, quality, and lead time.
  • Coordinate with Production and Process Engineering to finalize make-or-buy decisions.
  • Develop suitable outsourcing strategies for laser cutting, bending, rolling, machining, fabrication, blasting, painting, and specialized processes.
  • Ensure clearly defined scope of supply, including material responsibility, manufacturing operations, inspection, finishing, packing, and transportation.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend alternative manufacturing routes or subcontracting options.

E. Engineering, BOM & ERP Coordination

  • Interpret engineering drawings, revisions, BOMs, technical specifications, and material standards.
  • Coordinate with Engineering on drawing clarifications, design changes, and component specifications.
  • Ensure suppliers receive the latest approved drawing revision and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate with Planning and Process Engineering for manufacturing route and procurement requirements.
  • Maintain accurate sourcing records, lead times, prices, supplier details, and procurement data in Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Support engineering change implementation to minimize obsolete inventory, rework, and purchasing risks.

F. Supplier Quality & Delivery Management

  • Ensure material procurement complies with drawing specifications, material grades, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate first article inspection, sample approvals, dimensional checks, and material test certificates where applicable.
  • Work with Quality to resolve non-conformance reports, supplier rejections, and corrective actions.
  • Follow up on critical deliveries to prevent production-line stoppages.
  • Monitor supplier delivery performance and take action against repeated delays.
  • Support supplier recovery plans, alternative sourcing, and escalation for critical project requirements.

G. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare weekly and monthly sourcing dashboards covering cost savings, supplier deliveries, pending POs, RFQ aging, and supplier performance.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce procurement cycle time and improve material availability.
  • Support lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, inventory optimization, and working capital reduction.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve technical and commercial sourcing issues.

Technical Knowledge & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, machining, casting, forging, and sheet-metal manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings, tolerances, surface finishes, welding symbols, and BOM structures.
  • Knowledge of steel grades such as IS 2062, stainless steel, wear-resistant steel, and engineering alloys.
  • Understanding of material weight estimation, machining-cycle estimation, and process-based costing.
  • Knowledge of supplier quality requirements, dimensional inspection, and manufacturing standards.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including costing models, quotation comparisons, and supplier performance analysis.
  • Strong commercial negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • Education: Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 3–7 years in sourcing, supplier development, procurement engineering, or manufacturing cost estimation.
  • Preferred Industry Background: Heavy engineering, cement equipment, industrial machinery, automotive components, steel fabrication, or capital equipment manufacturing.

What you bring

  • Brings new supplier connections, market intelligence, and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Can independently estimate what a manufactured component should cost.
  • Challenges supplier quotations using engineering knowledge and factual cost analysis.
  • Identifies opportunities to convert expensive outsourced operations into economical in-house manufacturing, or vice versa.
  • Introduces new sourcing approaches instead of relying only on existing suppliers.
  • Understands the impact of procurement decisions on production efficiency, quality, working capital, and customer delivery.
  • Demonstrates initiative, ownership, commercial integrity, and measurable results.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
