Job Description

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, as a Maintainer Mechanical (HME Breakdown Fitter), you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, availability and performance of Hail Creek's heavy mobile equipment fleet. You will be responsible for performing preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance across a diverse range of heavy mobile equipment, including haul trucks, excavators, dozers, graders and loaders, ensuring machinery operates safely and efficiently to support production targets.

Working collaboratively with the broader Maintenance team, including mechanical fitters, auto electricians, electricians and boilermakers, you will be involved in diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out repairs and conducting inspections across a range of equipment and systems. You will contribute to minimising equipment downtime while ensuring all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with site procedures and manufacturer specifications.

As part of the broader Maintenance team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing equipment reliability, improving maintenance practices and reducing operational downtime. Your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills will play an important role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of the mine.

This diverse and hands-on environment provides excellent opportunities to further develop your technical skills, work across a broad range of heavy mobile equipment and progress your career within the mining industry.

About the Candidate

The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • A recognised Diesel Fitting Trade Qualification
  • A current Australian driver's licence
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile equipment within a mining or heavy industry environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with sound knowledge of hydraulic and diesel systems
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to equipment reliability and maintenance

Desirable skills and experience include:

  • Previous experience working in an open-cut mining environment
  • Experience working with heavy mobile equipment manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Hitachi, Liebherr and Komatsu
  • Relevant High Risk Work Licences or competencies, including forklift, crane and working at heights
  • Refrigerant Handling Licence
  • Experience maintaining heavy rigid trucks, on-highway vehicles and ancillary equipment

What We Offer

In return, we offer:

  • 7/7 Day/Night Rotating Roster
  • Direct employment with Glencore.
  • Competitive remuneration package with lifestyle benefits.
  • Annual short-term performance bonus.
  • Above-award annual leave entitlement.
  • Access to the Coal Mining Industry Long Service Leave Scheme.
  • Education Assistance opportunities to support further study and professional development.
  • Ongoing career development and advancement opportunities within a global mining organisation.

This role is a wonderful opportunity for you no matter your circumstance. You will have the option to either live locally in one of the communities that surround our operation or stay on site in our amazing village. We are only a one and quarter hour drive from the beautiful Mackay hinterland and a two- and half-hour drive from Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands and have a diverse group of people at our operation commuting from multiple locations in Queensland such as Rockhampton and Townsville, to name a few.

Our people think and act like entrepreneurs. We have built a culture that rewards dedicated people with a can-do spirit, who take responsibility, and who have the drive to be leaders in their field. If you are caring, responsive, intuitive, and driven, and can operate within a dynamic environment, this is your chance to become part of a culture that empowers people and drives progression.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
