Job Description Summary

The APD Digital Engineering Ecosystem (DEE) team is leading the digital transformation of a new military CAT1 propulsion program. This role requires a systems engineer who can coordinate the definition, management, and delivery of the digital engine as the authoritative product definition throughout its lifecycle. This program will take an advanced engine concept from design through vehicle integration, testing, qualification, and ultimately to depot-level sustainment—and the digital engine you manage will be the foundation that makes this possible.

This is a derivative engine leveraging legacy hardware alongside new hardware and advanced technologies, creating a unique challenge: managing a hybrid product definition approach that includes traditional 2D drawings, 3D models, and Model-Based Definition (MBD) for new components. Your role is to ensure this complex product definition ecosystem serves as the single source of truth, enabling seamless collaboration across design, manufacturing, test, and sustainment teams while meeting strict DoD configuration management and data delivery requirements.

The role focuses on Model-Based Assembly, which includes developing and coordinating the digital strategy for the engine in close partnership with the Engine Model Owner and Product Definition teams. You will lead the integration of the digital engine into the DEE to improve traceability and enable model-based manufacturing and assembly workflows. A critical responsibility is orchestrating the delivery of a comprehensive Technical Data Package (TDP) in accordance with MIL-STD-31000.

In addition to product definition, this role will drive innovation in digital qualification and digital twin development. Working with our airframe partners, you will define what a digital twin means for this engine and implement it across the DEE. You will collaborate with systems and test organizations to implement the strategy for digital engine test and qualification. Success in this role requires balancing legacy data management with cutting-edge digital engineering capabilities, ensuring data format consistency across the ecosystem, and establishing the processes that will support this engine for decades of operational life.

This role requires deep systems engineering expertise, strong understanding of product definition and configuration management, and experience working in complex aerospace programs. You must be able to navigate both technical and contractual requirements, communicate effectively with DoD customers and internal stakeholders, and drive alignment across cross-functional teams. Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital tools (Jira, Confluence, Cameo), and MES software such as Solumina is highly valued. Most importantly, you need to be self-motivated and able to balance the discipline of military standards compliance with the innovation required to advance digital engineering practices.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Development of a comprehensive digital strategy in line with the goals and requirements of the program including model-based design (MBD), model-based assembly and digital qualification.
  • Work with the Engine Model Owner and Product Definition team to develop and execute a strategy for digital engine definition.
  • Lead the integration of the digital engine into the DEE to improve traceability and collaboration across design, sourcing, manufacturing and test teams and enhance configuration management.
  • In conjunction with our airframe partners, develop the definition of a digital twin and implement across the DEE.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in digital engineering and data analytics and continuously improve existing tools and processes to enhance the effectiveness of the DEE.
  • Work with the systems and test organizations to develop and execute a strategy for digital engine test and qualification scope.
  • Develop and execute a strategy for DEE data management ensuring customer requirements and IP protection goals are met.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics from an accredited college or university (or high school diploma/GED and at least 9 years of engineering experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience
  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Active “Advanced program” access
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with customers, coupled with the demonstrated ability to influence teams effectively.
  • Experience with MES software such as Solumina
  • Experience utilizing digital tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Cameo
  • Strong experience with MBSE and “classical systems engineering” functions
  • Experience with GE Aerospace Digital tools and processes
  • Experience working with DoD customer and processes

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
