Job Description Summary

The Integrated Design & Build organization operates at the forefront of aircraft engine design and manufacturing technology. The Distinguished Staff Development & Process Engineer uses deep domain expertise to strategically define and drive new polymer matrix composite (PMC) process development, working collaboratively with design and manufacturing in support of GE Aerospace's Future of Flight initiatives.

In this role, you will set the technical strategy for PMC material and component-level processes, from early development through qualification and production continuous improvement, delivering producible components that mature from technology readiness (TRL) to manufacturing readiness (MRL). You will establish new best practices and design requirements, implement recent advancements in composites technology, and manage and communicate technical and programmatic risk to senior leaders.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the strategic path to develop, qualify, and implement new PMC processes, using appropriate MRL/TRL mechanisms, to deliver on Future of Flight programs.
  • Lead process development through designed experiments (DOEs), building deep understanding of how process parameters affect final part quality and performance.
  • Own technical program management for PMC process development efforts, including planning, execution, and technical and programmatic risk management, with regular communication to senior leaders.
  • Integrate new and improved PMC processes into manufacturing and MRO operations, partnering with shops, suppliers, and design engineering to ensure producibility of components.
  • Establish composites best practices and design requirements; author and integrate process specifications, technical documentation, and technical publications.
  • Monitor composites industry trends and engage with external partners, material suppliers, and research organizations to bring recent technology advancements into GE Aerospace processes.
  • Apply commercial and business acumen to process decisions, considering component cost, repair cost, and lifecycle impact.
  • Lead cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority, influencing peers and partners to adopt new approaches.
  • Document and share lessons learned within and outside the organization; actively mentor engineers and advance composites technical competency across the team.
  • Provide professional and thought leadership as an expert in the discipline. Influence policy and ensure delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization.
  • Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services. Use understanding of industry trends to inform decision making.
  • Lead others to find creative solutions within complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Evaluate the quality of information received, question conflicting data, and use resources outside own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Present technical solutions to leaders, communicate complex messages, and influence peers, external partners, vendors, or customers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience in composites manufacturing engineering and/or process development capacity.
  • Deep technical expertise and specialization in polymer matrix composite materials and processes

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in PMC process development, composites manufacturing engineering, or materials and process engineering, ideally in aerospace.
  • Hands-on experience with PMC fabrication processes, tooling, and cure
  • Familiarity with composites NDE methods and composite repair techniques.
  • Supplier and shop floor experience in a composites manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading DOEs and translating results into process specifications.
  • Hands-on mindset with the ability to think spatially; a clear thinker and effective problem solver.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and program management, including leading teams without direct reporting relationships.
  • Results-oriented with a disciplined, risk-managing approach.
  • Prior experience as a Certifying Agent, Materials Application Engineer (MAE), or Process/Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma, digital data analytics, and module-level systems thinking.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
