Job Description Summary

The General Counsel, Digital Technology & Global Security serves as the trusted legal advisor and strategic partner to the GE Aerospace Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Security Officer (CSO) and supports the broader executive team on enterprise technology, cybersecurity, privacy, data protection, third-party risk, product security, artificial intelligence, and global security matters. This role also serves as the Chief Privacy Officer for GE Aerospace.

This role drives enterprise resilience and technology enablement through a collaborative, forward-leaning legal partnership that helps protect GE Aerospace’s people, data, systems, and critical assets while enabling the business to adopt transformative technologies with regulatory confidence and operational agility. The role leads legal support for GE Aerospace’s global cyber, artificial intelligence, privacy, and data regulatory compliance efforts; helps enable the Company’s adoption of AI while driving effective AI and data governance; and advances digital transformation while navigating complex legal, regulatory, national security, and operational risks inherent in the aerospace and defense industry.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal legal advisor to the CIO, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), and Chief Data and AI Officer (CDAIO), providing proactive counsel on cybersecurity, privacy, data protection, third-party risk, product security, artificial intelligence, operational technology applications, and related digital technology matters.
  • Lead legal support for GE Aerospace’s AI governance program in partnership with the CDAIO, including developing and maintaining effective, operationally efficient, risk-informed AI use policies, acceptable-use standards, and approval and escalation processes.
  • Drive AI regulatory readiness by monitoring and assessing emerging AI laws, regulations, and standards (such as the EU AI Act, U.S. federal and state AI requirements, U.S. government and DoD AI policies, and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework); recordkeeping practices that support compliance and audit; and preparing the Company for regulator, customer, and government contracting inquiries regarding its use of AI.
  • Serve as Chief Privacy Officer, maintaining a strong privacy program to ensure compliance with applicable global regulations and managing and advising on privacy risks, and lead legal support for cyber, privacy, and technology incident response, including improving incident response processes and leading responses to network and data breaches, product security vulnerabilities, and other cyber or privacy incidents, including advice on regulatory disclosures and related litigation and other preparedness actions.
  • Provide strategic advice, as lead attorney, with GE Aerospace’s Global Security Leader, including with respect to global security risk and compliance initiatives, including national security matters, insider investigations, and applicable national security program regulations.
  • Lead legal strategy for the evolving global regulatory landscape affecting cyber, privacy, AI, data protection, and national security, including U.S. DoD cyber-related requirements, non-U.S. regulatory regimes, and high-risk regions that may affect digital operations, solution architecture, and integration of new technology with enterprise networks and infrastructure.
  • Proactively educate and advise senior leadership and, as appropriate, the Board of Directors on cyber, privacy, AI, and related risk matters; engage with government agencies, law enforcement, industry partners, and trade associations to exchange information and share best practices; and advocate for policy, statutory, and regulatory changes globally to advance GE Aerospace’s interests.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • A minimum 10 years of experience as a lawyer, including at least 5 years of expertise practicing in a relevant field (cyber/privacy/technology).
  • At least 5 years of experience in:
  • Cyber, privacy, and/or technology law, including U.S. Department of Defense cyber-related regulatory requirements, and familiarity with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Advising senior leaders on cyber, artificial intelligence, privacy, technology, and related risk matters.
  • Developing and implementing policies, governance frameworks, and practical guidance in support of compliance requirements.

Additional Information

  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives and influence strategic decisions at the enterprise level in large, global, highly regulated organizations.
  • Experience with global cyber, privacy, AI, and data regulatory regimes, including key non-U.S. requirements where GE Aerospace has significant interests, including Europe and the European Union, and high-risk regions (e.g., China and India) that affect digital operations, technology architecture, and integration with enterprise networks and infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of AI-specific regulatory and standards frameworks, such as the EU AI Act, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO/IEC 42001, and U.S. government and DoD AI policies, and experience preparing an organization for compliance with them.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly for varied audiences to accelerate decisions and secure buy-in.
  • Experience engaging with government, industry, and security stakeholders on regulatory and risk matters.
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills, with demonstrated ability to work across senior leaders, business teams, and functional stakeholders to identify and resolve complex issues quickly, effectively, and collaboratively.
  • Successful leadership of legal and compliance teams to enable the business and protect the enterprise.
  • Successful experience negotiating complex commercial contracts and advising on legal and business risk management.
  • Anticipates issues, applies law and policy quickly, weighs risks and benefits, and tailors practical, risk-balanced solutions to help achieve business objectives.
  • Drives continuous improvement, builds and inspires a one-team culture, develops the judgment of others, and fosters strong cross-functional collaboration.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
