Job Description Summary
As a Full Stack Development Engineer for our Science and Technology Organization, you’ll build software end to end – from responsive, user-facing web experiences through the APIs, distributed services, and data layers that power them. You’ll scope and lead complex technical projects, laying the groundwork for early-stage products to iterate and scale, while driving software engineering best practices and delivering high-quality software on tight schedules. The work will be part of, but not limited to, the projects that are part of the recently created Wisconsin Tech Hub.

Job Description
Roles/Responsibilities
- Work with a cross functional team to create software products under approved architecture and under the roadmap set by the product management team
- Take ownership of features end to end – from the user interface through backend services, APIs, and persistence – with high emphasis on quality, test-driven development, and sound software engineering practices
- Build responsive, accessible user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks, partnering closely with UX to translate designs into production experiences
- Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated test suites, and the monitoring and observability needed to operate the services you own
- Participate in software design reviews, conduct peer code reviews, and provide input and feedback to other members of the development team
- Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all the team deliverables
- Serve as the Product Security Representative for Tech Hub, ensuring adherence to Secure Development Lifecycle requirements and that security controls, evidence, and documentation are complete before each release
- Coordinate security reviews, threat modeling, risk assessments, penetration testing, security scans, and SBOM generation, and track remediation of vulnerabilities, security findings, and compliance gaps
- Partner with engineering teams on secure coding and dependency management practices, and track security metrics, remediation SLAs, and compliance status across components
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline
- 4+ years of professional software development experience across the stack including front end engineering and modern design principles
- 1+ year of experience with building scalable, distributed systems using a modern cloud framework such as AWS, Azure or GCP and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
- Strong experience with a modern front-end framework (e.g. Angular, React, Vue) and with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
- Strong experience with Java, a modern Java microservice framework (Quarkus, Spring Boot), JPA (e.g. Hibernate) or an equivalent backend stack
- Experience using AI tools to enhance engineering workflows, optimize compliance checks, or assist in documentation generation
Desired Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional software development experience
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Experience with design/architecting large-scale distributed systems preferably using AWS technologies
- Experience with both relational and NoSQL data stores, including schema design and query performance tuning
- Previous experience with big data systems, analytics, containerized microservices, serverless functions, and event-driven architecture
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, GitLab CI/CD tooling, and supporting production software deployments
- Experience building accessible (WCAG 2.x) and internationalized user interfaces
- Previous experience working directly with end customers to assess needs, identify solutions, and constructively resolve disagreements
- Experience creating, documenting, and communicating software architectures for complex products
- Experience in Agile software development, including building, tracking, and communicating plans, with the ability to drive process improvements and compliance automation initiatives
- Technical expertise across all deployment models on public cloud, and on-premises infrastructure
- Excellent technical problem-solving skills and aptitude to learn new technologies and methodologies
- Experience working in regulated or safety-critical software environments (healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or similar)
- Familiarity with design controls, traceability, audit readiness, and release governance
- Experience with secure coding standards, static and dynamic application security testing (SAST/DAST), software composition analysis, and secrets management
- Strong understanding of Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) practices
- Experience coordinating security reviews, threat modeling, vulnerability management, and compliance activities
