Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt.

We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard — from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

We are seeking an Engine Dyno Technician – 2nd Shift to support the execution of gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing within the Engine Dyno Test Cells. Reporting to the assigned Group Leader, you will coordinate daily test-cell activities and collaborate with engineers, calibrators, suppliers, and laboratory support teams to ensure testing is performed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

This technician applies Global Manufacturing System (GMS) tools, technical problem-solving methods, and hands-on engine and test-cell expertise to manage testing priorities, maintain equipment readiness, validate test data, and improve laboratory operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion safety by following established procedures, identifying hazards, and promoting safe work practices for all personnel.
  • Use GMS tools and structured problem-solving methods to support daily operations, team objectives, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate the flow of daily test-cell activities, including test priorities, resource requirements, equipment readiness, and task completion.
  • Execute a wide range of procedural and non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer tests.
  • Install and remove engines on dynamometers and complete engine component installation, replacement, and related mechanical work.
  • Install instrumentation, connect test-cell systems, and perform diagnostics to support reliable test execution.
  • Collect, review, and validate test data for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
  • Interface with product and testing engineers regarding new test procedures, equipment, instrumentation, and test methods.
  • Work with Lab Engineering, Instrumentation, and Equipment teams to communicate test-cell status, equipment performance, and technical issues.
  • Identify abnormal test-cell or engine conditions, support root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in support-team meetings and other operational reviews focused on business goals, test execution, and team performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to team members and other personnel as required.
  • Maintain an open, collaborative communication environment across engineering, laboratory, calibration, supplier, and support organizations.
  • Work assigned off-shift schedules as required to support test operations.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Associate degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or a related field; or five or more years of equivalent experience in a related technical field.
  • Two or more years of hands-on experience applying Lean or GMS tools in a manufacturing, laboratory, or engineering environment.
  • Three or more years of experience installing and removing engines on dynamometers.
  • Three or more years of experience installing instrumentation, connecting test systems, and performing diagnostics.
  • Three years or more years of experience installing, replacing, and troubleshooting engine components.
  • Working knowledge of gasoline and/or diesel internal combustion engine systems.
  • Mechanical, fabrication, and equipment troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical information, test requirements, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to train and provide technical guidance to others.
  • Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Experience using PUMA, INCA, and Indicom test-bed software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and related applications.
  • Ability to work assigned off-shift schedules.

What Will Give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Five or more years of hands-on experience in engine development and/or engine validation testing.
  • Five or more years of experience using PUMA, INCA, and Indicom test-bed systems.
  • Five or more years of welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair experience.
  • Experience supporting engine dynamometer test-cell commissioning, troubleshooting, or equipment improvement activities.
  • Experience working directly with product engineers, calibration engineers, suppliers, and laboratory support organizations.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
