Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

Join a team shaping the future of automotive interiors. We’re hiring a Staff Lead Engineer, Interior Cockpit - a high-impact technical leader who brings bold thinking, deep engineering expertise, and a relentless commitment to execution excellence. This role is ideal for professionals who thrive in fast-paced, high-visibility environments and want to influence how next-generation vehicle interiors are designed, engineered, and launched. As a senior technical expert, you will guide teams across Instrument Panels, Floor Consoles, Decorative Trim, and Interior Lighting. You will shape design direction, elevate execution discipline, and help deliver world-class interior quality and customer experiences. This is a force-multiplier role for someone who elevates teams, solves difficult problems, and drives meaningful change across programs and platforms.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) Technical Leadership & Execution Excellence

  • Lead the design, development, and launch of interior cockpit systems
  • Mentor engineers to strengthen technical rigor and execution capability
  • Ensure delivery on time, on cost, and on quality

Innovation, Strategy & Continuous Improvement

  • Improve materials, processes, and system architecture to enhance quality, manufacturability, cost, and speed
  • Drive best-practice adoption, read-across, and closed-loop learning
  • Partner cross-functionally to shape the interior cockpit roadmap

Problem Solving & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Lead resolution of complex, high-visibility technical challenges
  • Support urgent or off-hours issue resolution when required
  • Influence teams without direct authority

Program Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage multiple programs and priorities
  • Work with internal teams, suppliers, and global partners
  • Travel for builds, supplier engagement, and program support

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging, or other relevant degree
  • 8+ years of experience in interior systems (IP, Floor Consoles, Decorative Trim, or Interior Lighting)
  • Expertise in injection-molded trim, foam-in-place, thermoformed skins, and cut-and-sew wrapped substrates
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory, performance, and validation requirements
  • Proven success launching interior subsystems through SOP
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to lead independently while owning outcomes

What Will Give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in interior systems (IP, Floor Consoles, Decorative Trim, or Interior Lighting)
  • Design release or manufacturing engineering experience
  • DFSS Master Black Belt or DFSS Black Belt

Why This Role Matters

  • Help define the next generation of vehicle interiors
  • Work in a culture that values innovation, speed, and engineering excellence
  • Drive better quality, faster execution, and stronger customer experiences
  • Join a team known for raising the bar across the industry

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
