Job description

Are you an experienced oncology nurse looking for an opportunity to take your SACT expertise to the next level?

Join GenesisCare at our Bristol Cancer Centre, where you'll be part of a specialist team delivering personalised cancer care and the latest systemic anti-cancer treatments in a modern outpatient environment.

As a Senior SACT Nurse, you'll have the opportunity to combine hands-on clinical excellence with leadership, education, service development and research. You'll manage your own patient caseload, run nurse-led clinics, work closely with leading oncology consultants and provide expert support to patients throughout their treatment journey.

The Role As a Senior SACT Nurse, you'll play a key role in delivering a high-quality chemotherapy and SACT service at our Bristol centre, providing specialist nursing advice and support to patients and their families from diagnosis through treatment.

You'll work autonomously while providing clinical leadership within the SACT team, ensuring patients receive safe, evidence-based and personalised care.

You'll also have the opportunity to deputise for the Lead SACT Nurse when required, support the development of junior colleagues and contribute to the ongoing development of our nursing practice and services.

Our Bristol centre provides patients with access to a comprehensive range of SACT alongside advanced radiotherapy and integrated cancer care, creating an environment where you can work closely with a genuinely multidisciplinary team.

What You'll Do

  • Manage your own patient caseload and provide specialist nursing advice throughout the cancer treatment pathway
  • Run nurse-led clinics and assess patients' health, treatment and nursing needs
  • Deliver chemotherapy and other systemic anti-cancer therapies safely and effectively
  • Use your advanced clinical skills in venepuncture, cannulation and central venous access
  • Recognise and manage treatment complications, including anaphylaxis, extravasation and neutropenic sepsis
  • Provide telephone triage and out-of-hours support as part of the 24-hour on-call team
  • Work closely with medical consultants, pharmacists, radiographers and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Deputise for the Lead SACT Nurse when required
  • Support and develop junior members of the nursing team through education, mentorship and competency assessment
  • Contribute to clinical audit, research and service improvement initiatives
  • Support the development of clinical protocols and evidence-based nursing practice
  • Keep up to date with current research and clinical trials within oncology and SACT
  • Promote high standards of patient safety, quality and experience across the service

The role combines advanced clinical practice with opportunities to influence how the service develops, including leading areas of nursing practice, supporting research and contributing to clinical audit and service improvement.

What You'll Have

  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 2 years' nursing experience
  • Previous oncology experience, with experience delivering chemotherapy/SACT
  • Experience and competence in intravenous drug administration
  • UKONS SACT Passport, or willingness to complete this within three months of appointment
  • Experience and competence in venepuncture, cannulation and different types of central venous access devices
  • Experience of oncology telephone triage and recognition and management of neutropenic sepsis
  • Experience in blood transfusion and bone marrow biopsies
  • Strong clinical judgement with the ability to work autonomously and make decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A genuine commitment to delivering outstanding patient care

You'll also need to be comfortable working flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including participation in the 24-hour on-call rota.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
