What You’ll Do

As a Traveling Highway Guardrail Foreman, you’ll lead a union crew while working alongside them in the field. You’ll be responsible for safely completing guardrail and roadway safety projects throughout the RoadGuard West service area.

This is a traveling field position. Crews typically leave from the Erie, Colorado yard on Monday and travel to project locations throughout the region, returning Friday. Depending on the project, you may be required to remain out for up to two weeks at a time. Projects may also require night-shift work, so flexibility with travel, shifts, and schedules is required.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and work alongside a union crew installing guardrail, impact attenuators, sign structures, and other highway safety systems.
  • Plan daily work, assign tasks, and set production goals to keep projects safe, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and jobsite safety inspections.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, shop drawings, specifications, and traffic control plans.
  • Coordinate jobsite setup, traffic control, materials, equipment, and crew needs.
  • Ensure equipment is operated safely, inspected regularly, and properly maintained.
  • Coordinate manpower needs with the local union hall and handle crew-related issues professionally.
  • Train and mentor crew members while providing clear direction and feedback.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for field operations.
  • Complete daily reports, timesheets, production logs, and equipment and material records.
  • Communicate scope changes, unexpected site conditions, and additional work to the Project Manager.

What You’ll Bring

  • Three to five years of highway, roadway, or heavy civil construction experience.
  • At least two years of experience as a foreman, crew lead, or similar field leader.
  • Working knowledge of DOT specifications, work-zone traffic control, and OSHA construction safety requirements.
  • Experience operating or overseeing roadway construction equipment such as post drivers, skid steers, man lifts, drill rigs, augers, boom trucks, and dump trucks.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • A hands-on leadership style and willingness to work alongside your crew.
  • Ability and willingness to travel Monday through Friday and remain out for up to two weeks at a time when project schedules require it.
  • Flexibility to work day or night shifts depending on project needs.
  • Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for timekeeping, daily reporting, and project communication.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Experience working under a union collective bargaining agreement is preferred. A CDL is also preferred but not required.

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 – Construction
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) or equivalent
  • Flagger certification
  • First Aid and CPR certification

Travel, Schedule & Shift Differential

This is a regional traveling field position based out of our Erie, Colorado yard. Travel is a regular part of the position, not occasional.

  • Crews typically travel Monday through Friday to active projects throughout the RoadGuard West service area.
  • Some projects may require employees to remain out for up to two weeks at a time.
  • Project schedules may require day or night-shift work, and employees must be flexible based on operational needs.
  • Foremen working a night shift receive a $4.00/hour shift differential.
  • When scheduled to work more than 12 hours in a day, hours beyond 12 are paid at time-and-a-half.

Candidates should be comfortable with frequent travel and changing project schedules before applying.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on field position performed outdoors near live traffic and in changing weather conditions. You must be able to:

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, twist, and climb.
  • Use hand tools and operate construction equipment.
  • Lift and carry at least 75 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
