Why Join GFL?
GFL Environmental is the only major diversified environmental services company in North America. As part of Team Green, you'll enjoy career growth opportunities, competitive benefits, and the chance to make a positive impact every day.
What's in it for you:
- Competitive wages
- Comprehensive benefits package
- 401(k) matching and profit sharing
- Paid time off
- Employee Assistance Program
- Growth and advancement opportunities
What you'll do:
- Lead the regional billing team. Manage billers and billing supervisors across Texas and Louisiana, evaluate team performance and structure, and design the organization the region needs to scale.
- Coach and develop people. Set clear expectations, build a bench of strong leads and supervisors, and create a team culture of ownership and accuracy.
- Own billing timeliness and accuracy. Ensure every completed job is billed promptly and correctly under each customer's contract terms, including T&M, unit-rate and lump-sum work, surcharges and third-party disposal.
- Be the region's billing-system expert. Take an active part in the integration of our new billing system, support billers through the transition, and work with corporate teams to resolve system issues.
- Streamline processes. Identify bottlenecks from field ticket to invoice, standardize billing practices across locations, and drive automation where it removes manual work.
- Build and report key metrics. Develop and track KPIs such as unbilled revenue, ticket-to-invoice cycle time, invoice accuracy, credits and rebills, and use them to drive improvement.
- Partner with Collections to reduce DSO. Work with the AR team to resolve disputes, fix root causes of rejected or delayed invoices, and manage customer portal submissions.
- Partner with Operations and Sales. Build working relationships with district and site leaders so that billing information flows cleanly from the field to the invoice.
What's required:
- 5+ years of experience managing and leading teams, ideally in a billing leadership role
- Proven success building and leading high-performing teams
- Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced, deadline-driven billing environment
- Experience leading successful technology or system initiatives, such as a billing-system implementation, automation project or process redesign
- Experience with customer billing portals and electronic invoicing
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data from multiple systems
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication
Preferred
- Experience leading teams across multiple sites, including managing through supervisors or leads
- Waste, environmental or industrial services experience, especially billing for refinery and petrochemical customers
- Familiarity with field tickets, manifests, disposal tickets and T&M or unit-rate contract billing
- Hands-on use of automation, BI or AI tools such as Power BI to improve reporting or workflows
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field
Who Thrives Here
- A servant leader who builds the team up and puts its success first
- A root-cause digger who fixes why an invoice was wrong, not just the invoice, and follows issues through to closure
- Gritty and resilient under month-end pressure and changing priorities
- Curious and open to new ways of working, with a track record of using new tools and automation
- Coachable and eager to grow as a leader
- Credible with Operations, someone field and site leaders trust and pick up the phone for
- Steady through change, able to reorganize a team and learn a new system while invoices still go out on time

- Location: Flexible. The role can be based at any GFL Plant Services location in Texas or Louisiana, including Houston, Baytown, Texas City, Freeport, Corpus Christi, Brownsville, Bastrop, Port Arthur, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.
