An overview of this role

As a Benefits Analyst on GitLab's Total Rewards team, you'll support global benefits administration and take ownership of day-to-day benefits operations in India, partnering closely with a Senior Benefits Analyst. Your initial priorities will include planning benefits events at the Bangalore hub, streamlining enrollment and benefits onboarding , handling tier 1 benefit questions and escalations, taking over and improving administrative and audit processes, along with routine benefits tasks. You'll build depth in global benefits and manage assigned work with increasing independence, seeking guidance on prioritization, new assignments, and higher-risk issues. This role reports to the Manager, Global Benefits and focuses on benefits programs, not leave administration. You'll need to be based in Bangalore, with periodic office presence for hosting and managing benefits events, and flexibility to collaborate across time zones, including Pacific time.

What You’ll Do

  • Support day-to-day administration for assigned benefits programs, including eligibility, enrollment, benefits onboarding, billing, reporting, audits, quality assurance, documentation, and issue resolution, with a particular focus on India.
  • Review benefits and team-member data from multiple sources, research discrepancies and root causes, and recommend next steps for manager or senior team-member review.
  • Work with brokers and vendors on day-to-day benefits operations, and support the Senior Benefits Analyst with renewals, plan changes, implementations, testing, launches, and post-launch improvements. Benefits plan decisions remain with the Senior Benefits Analyst.
  • Plan, host, and manage benefits events at the Bangalore hub, and coordinate assigned benefits activities across selected countries and employment arrangements. Apply documented processes and escalate questions that require deeper local or technical expertise.
  • Partner with Payroll, Finance, People Operations, and People Technology on accurate reporting, billing reconciliation, eligibility data, and compliance-related processes.
  • Support People Operations in resolving team-member benefits inquiries, explain moderately complex benefits topics in accessible language, and escalate cases appropriately.
  • Analyze benefits utilization, cost, survey, and qualitative data to identify trends and prepare summaries, insights, and recommendations that support team priorities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, process guides, trackers, and communications; support the transition of administrative processes and recommend ways to simplify, standardize, or automate them, including responsible use of artificial intelligence tools. Protect accuracy and team-member experience, communicate progress and risks, and seek guidance on prioritizing improvements.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience supporting benefits administration, including enrollment, reporting, and audits, and working with benefits brokers or vendors. Experience supporting benefits in more than one country is required; global technology company experience is preferred. Strategic benefits plan design experience isn't required.
  • Working knowledge of core benefits concepts, such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental benefits.
  • Experience using a human resources information system (HRIS), benefits administration platform, or similar operational tools, with attention to detail in data entry, testing, reconciliation, and quality assurance. Workday experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate or stronger Excel or Google Sheets skills, including VLOOKUPs, filters, pivot tables, and data analysis; macros aren't required. Ability to evaluate multiple sources, identify patterns or discrepancies, and develop evidence-based recommendations with appropriate guidance.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain benefits topics in accessible language and collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to manage assigned work, meet deadlines, communicate when blocked, and distinguish urgent work from work that can be sequenced.
  • A collaborative, learning-oriented approach, willingness to apply feedback, and curiosity about using artificial intelligence tools responsibly to improve benefits work and team processes.
  • Ability to be based in Bangalore and go to our Bangalore hub to host and manage benefits events, with flexibility for collaboration across time zones, including Pacific time.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
