The posting

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled, senior-level Senior Software Engineer for a strictly backend-focused role. Front-end-heavy candidates are not the target profile for this position. This role requires an expert engineer who can drive backend engineering initiatives for large-scale, complex applications. You will serve as a technical anchor, providing architectural direction and cross-domain troubleshooting expertise to ensure the successful delivery of highly scalable, distributed, cloud-native backend systems.

Requirements & Qualifications (Must Have)

  • Expert-level Java programming experience, including hands-on development of testable code, a clear understanding of the SDLC, and the ability to write efficient unit test cases and automation test scripts.
  • Microservices experience with a strong backend focus.
  • Backend systems experience, including work on large-scale, complex applications.
  • Experience in the payments industry or building payment applications.
  • Distributed systems and scalable application development experience, including cloud-native applications, algorithms, logging frameworks, scaling, and UML principles.
  • Expert in SOAP/REST communication and the usage of test harnesses.
  • Experience working with and possessing knowledge of merge methodologies using version control systems like Git, GitLab, and BitBucket.
  • Familiarity or experience with test automation frameworks (such as Cypress.io, TestRail, Selenium, and Jenkins) as applied within a backend or full-cycle engineering context.

Desirable Skills (Nice to Have)

  • AI experience.
  • Risk and compliance experience.
  • Database management and data migration experience, including work with specific database technologies like Oracle, RDS, and DynamoDB.
  • Cloud platform experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Interview Process

  • Two interview rounds are planned, with at least one live, shared-screen coding assessment.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Technical Direction & Architecture: Lead and give technical direction to fellow engineers while authoring extensive architecture and design documents utilizing distributed system design, algorithms, logging frameworks, scaling, and microservices principles.
  • Backend Code Development: Write high-quality, testable, expert-level Java code within a backend-focused full-cycle engineering framework, maintaining a clear understanding of the complete SDLC.
  • Cloud & Payments Application Engineering: Design, build, and deploy scalable cloud-native applications inside public cloud infrastructures, specifically optimizing core backend infrastructure for the payments industry.
  • Database & Migration Management: Administer and integrate applications with enterprise database technologies, supporting backend data migration initiatives and utilizing expert-level communication protocols.
  • Version Control Tracking: Oversee and manage codebase integration using precise merge methodologies across version control platforms like Git, GitLab, BitBucket, etc.
  • Cross-Domain Troubleshooting: Deliver excellent troubleshooting and issue resolution skills, demonstrating the capacity to quickly isolate and debug complex technical issues even when they occur in areas outside of your immediate domain.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
