Pratt & Whitney’s Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) organization is seeking a goal-oriented, detail-focused Design Engineer II to support the HSE ESTO Airfoils team in Asheville, NC. In this role, you will support military and commercial airfoil production, with a focus on quality improvement, corrective actions, producibility, Cost of Poor Quality reduction, engineering changes, and production support. You will work closely with operations, quality, procurement, suppliers, and engineering SMEs to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement across assigned airfoil hardware.

What You Will Do:

  • Plan and manage corrective actions, Quality Notifications (QN), and Cost of Poor Quality initiatives, driving root-cause investigations and measurable quality and cost improvements.
  • Develop Class II engineering change packages using Pro-Cert methodology and data-driven decision-making to improve quality, cost, producibility, and production processes.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned airfoil part families and engine hardware, proactively eliminating repeat QNs and supporting Stop Delivery Order (SDO)/Fleet Management Programs (FMP) investigations.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, procurement, suppliers, and engineering SMEs to resolve production issues, coordinate eSRI responses, support Materials Resource Planning (MRP) requirements, and drive timely technical closure.
  • Present technical status and recommendations to Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), HSE/ESTO leadership, and Program Management, while driving continuous improvement and establishing risk-based “Right-size Analysis” practices.

Travel Requirement: 10% | Domestic

What You Will Learn:

  • Develop expertise in military and commercial airfoil design, manufacturing, and production support.
  • Gain experience with Class II engineering changes, QN management, Pro-Cert, RCCA, and risk-based engineering decisions.
  • Build technical knowledge of assigned airfoil part families and engine hardware, with an opportunity to progress toward CIPT Delegate Approver responsibilities.
  • Develop cross-functional leadership skills through collaboration with operations, quality, procurement, suppliers, CIPTs, and engineering SMEs.
  • Strengthen expertise in producibility, Cost of Poor Quality reduction, defect assessment, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or in a related field and 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field. Relevant engineering experience with engineering problem-solving, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, or production support.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience working in the aerospace industry within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous airfoil design or manufacturing experience.
  • Working proficiency with MS Office, Teamcenter, SAP, and Unigraphics/NX.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
