We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

Raytheon is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support factory production operations. This individual will work closely with cross‑functional partners including manufacturing engineering, factory management, quality engineering, and operations assembly/test personnel. This role resides within the Manufacturing Engineering department.

You will evaluate performance and nonconformance data for complex mechanical assemblies, perform mechanical root‑cause analysis, and provide direction for rework, retest, and process improvements. You will collaborate with multiple functions to improve yields, reduce cycle time, enhance test/inspection processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.

This role is a first‑shift assignment with core hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with an optional 9/80 schedule. Occasional weekend work may be required to support factory operations.

Key Responsibilities

Provide mechanical engineering expertise to troubleshoot assemblies failing inspection or test, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

Investigate mechanical failure trends, perform structured root‑cause and corrective action (RCCA) analysis, and implement preventive measures to mitigate systemic production issues.

Support troubleshooting and repair of mechanical components, sub‑assemblies, housings, thermal solutions, structures, and mechanical interfaces on systems produced at McKinney CMC such as ATFLIR, Harpoon, MTS, EODAS, and related programs.

Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides, mechanical rework instructions, tooling concepts, and documentation used to support production and test processes.

Drive initiatives to reduce cycle time, minimize touch labor, and improve manufacturability to optimize overall production costs.

Collaborate with cross‑functional partners to resolve technical challenges related to mechanical design, tolerance stack‑ups, materials, assembly processes, or environmental performance.

Utilize standard mechanical engineering tools—including CAD models, engineering drawings, metrology equipment, and inspection tools—to evaluate, troubleshoot, and disposition mechanical issues.

Required Skills

A bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

Strong technical aptitude demonstrated through academic performance or hands‑on engineering experience.

Experience troubleshooting or supporting production of mechanical assemblies, components, or complex electro‑mechanical systems.

Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), schematics, and assembly documentation.

Experience with mechanical analysis tools or equipment such as calipers, CMMs, force/torque measurement tools, environmental chambers, or other mechanical diagnostics equipment.

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

Desired Skills

Experience supporting Electro‑Optical/Infrared (EO/IR), mechanical structures, optics packaging, thermal management, or RF‑related mechanical hardware in a production environment.

Familiarity with common mechanical components and systems such as bearings, fasteners, heat sinks, seals, flexures, adhesives, and motion mechanisms.

Experience designing experiments or conducting structured investigations for RCCA activities.

Proficiency interpreting material specifications, tolerance stacks, mechanical drawings, and component datasheets.

Strong analytical skills for identifying trends using production and inspection data; ability to recommend process improvements.

Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.

Active Secret Clearance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
