What You Will Do:
The successful candidate will design mechanical test equipment and systems within the Mechanical Power Conversion (MPC) division of Collins Aerospace. The test equipment is utilized for production, R&D, and qualification testing of cutting-edge military and commercial aerospace products including fuel pumps, air turbine starters and blowers, engine and air frame gearboxes, and lube and scavenge pumps.
As a Mechanical Engineer in the Test Equipment Engineering department at Collins Aerospace, you will:
- Design test equipment and systems for MPC (Mechanical Power Conversion) suite of mechanical power generation, transmission, and distribution products for military and commercial applications.
- Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical, thermodynamic, hydraulic, and power transmission test equipment for engineering tests, qualification testing, and production testing of engine & aircraft mounted gearboxes, air turbine starters, main fuel pumps, integrated fuel pumps, and lube & scavenge pumps
- Document drawings, schematics, diagrams, and specifications of test equipment designs.
- Participate in guiding test equipment activities including build, assembly, checkout, verification/validation, and commissioning.
- Review test results in relation to equipment design or rated specifications and test objectives and recommend modification or adjustments of equipment to meet specifications.
- Develop performance, maintenance, and calibration requirements for test stands and equipment.
- Participate peer reviews of specifications, designs, and concepts for test equipment, components, and systems.
- Document fluid schematics and specifications to construct, relocate, and install test stands, test equipment, and facilities infrastructure.
- Place & track orders and manage costs & schedules.
- Conduct/Coordinate/Participate in Project Status reviews with team and other stakeholders
- Work independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team ensuring work is completed on-time, within quality standards, per specifications and contracts, and within budget constraints.
- Support test equipment estimation activities including test stand/equipment costs and schedules.
- Development and documentation of performance, design, calibration, and maintenance requirements for test stands.
What You Will Learn:
- You will learn in-depth knowledge of fuel pumps, air turbine starters, blowers, engine and airframe gearboxes, and lube and scavenge pumps, including their functions and how they get tested.
- You will learn how to manage projects from inception to completion, focusing on developing multimillion-dollar test stands and equipment, including project planning, execution, and delivery.
- Fluid dynamics, equipment design, project estimation and management.
- A wide variety of engineering roles including mechanical, electrical, quality, manufacturing, and industrial
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience in the design of mechanical rotating equipment.
- Experience in the design of hydraulic and fluid circuits.
- AutoCAD (preferred 2D drafting format) and NX – 3D CAD by Siemens (SolidWorks)
- Data acquisition and control hardware and software

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
