Role Overview:

Could you be our next Sr IT Programmer Analyst Mainframe? Globe Life is looking for a Sr IT Programmer Analyst Mainframe to join the team!

In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle development, deployment, and ongoing support of mainframe-based applications that serve the operational and strategic needs of a life and accident insurance company. You will apply expert-level proficiency in mainframe technologies to design, build, and maintain complex systems supporting critical business functions such as policy administration, claims processing, and underwriting. This role also serves as a subject matter expert and mentor, collaborating with business clients, IT leadership, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.

This is a remote / work-from-home position.

What You Will Do:

  • Coordinate with business clients and IT personnel to analyze system requests, develop technical specifications, and deliver solutions for new development projects and maintenance of existing mainframe-based applications.
  • Design, code, test, and implement program changes — independently or collaboratively — ensuring solutions meet business requirements and adhere to established quality standards.
  • Conduct thorough problem analysis of technical system and application issues, document findings, and propose resolution alternatives to minimize business disruption.
  • Prepare and execute unit and integration test plans for program changes, partnering with clients and IT personnel to validate outcomes.
  • Adhere to SDLC standards, including the preparation of project-related documentation as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Serve as Project Lead for smaller or less complex projects, coordinating tasks, timelines, and communications across team members.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
  • Prepare user and operational documentation for all programming work performed.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced programmer/analysts and act as a go-to resource for complex technical questions.
  • Provide on-call production support as needed to ensure system availability and business continuity.

What You Can Bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in system development and support for mainframe-based applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Mastery of mainframe development tools including COBOL, Easytrieve, CICS, VSAM, JCL, and zOS. Expert working knowledge of zOS utilities such as SyncSort, IDCAMS, CECI, CEDF, and FTP, as well as third-party toolsets.
  • Strong working knowledge of SDLC methodologies including Waterfall and Agile.
  • Proven ability to partner with business clients to develop system solutions aligned to business needs.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results in a team environment.
  • Reliable attendance with the ability to work full time.
  • Assembler knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with client/server technology and working with .TXT, .XLS files and SQL is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio) is preferred.
  • Insurance industry experience in life, health, and annuity is a plus.

Applicable To All Employees of Globe Life Family of Companies:

  • Reliable and predictable attendance of your assigned shift.
  • Ability to work full time and/or part time based on the position specifications.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
