GM Performance Power Units - Concord, NC ICE Assembly Process Engineering Intern - Onsite Date of Internship: Summer 2027 Job Summary: GM Performance Power Units is seeking an intern to support our ICE Assembly team in Concord, NC. The intern will help document how processes and departments interact, identify opportunities for standardization and improvement, and support engineering operations and manufacturing projects. Responsibilities may include creating and updating work instructions, process flow diagrams, and additional documentation, assisting with ECN documentation, organizing production data, supporting IFS/ERP updates, and tracking project action items. The role will also provide exposure to Atlas Copco tooling, torque processes, and assembly technology while allowing the intern to gain hands-on experience within a manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
Help with process mapping and flow charts. Document how Engineering, Assembly, Quality, Supply Chain, and other departments interact. Help with ECN process documentation and tracking. Update/create work instructions and process documentation. Spend time on the floor learning current assembly and manufacturing processes. Help identify gaps, bottlenecks, or areas where processes could be improved. Assist with continuous improvement projects. Help organize engineering/manufacturing documentation. Assist with IFS/ERP data entry and process-related updates. Help collect and organize production/process data. Help create and maintain process diagrams. Sit in on cross-functional meetings and help track action items and follow-ups. Support smaller engineering/manufacturing projects as they come up. Work with Atlas Copco tools and software used within Assembly. Help with setup, documentation, and organization related to Atlas Copco tooling. Assist with Avantguard Tool / Avantguard Screen, tool configurations, process monitoring, and related assembly support. Help document how Atlas Copco tools are being used within the assembly process and Identify areas that could be standardized or improved. Help support torque tool/process setup and documentation as needed. Other tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Controls & Systems Engineering, Engineering Technology, or similar majors. Comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing environment. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and manufacturing technologies. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Collaboration: Works effectively with internal teams and external partners. Adaptability: Responds effectively to evolving business needs and opportunities. Growth mindset. Ability to handle multiple projects independently.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CAD, SmartDraw, Visio, ERP systems, or manufacturing software. Experience with Atlas Copco tooling or torque tools. Interest in manufacturing, controls, automation, process improvement, or assembly. Basic understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move in diverse operational environments, including race shops, arenas, and commercial facilities. Comfortable working in variable environmental conditions, including loud, high-traffic, or high-pressure environments.
