Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Portuguese fluently to engage with local stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Qualified to practice law in Brazil.
  • 5 of professional experience in litigation within an in-house legal department or law firm.

As Associate Litigation Counsel on the Brazilian legal team, you are an outstanding lawyer with a genuine interest in technology who thinks creatively and strategically. You are an adept litigation counsel, advising on a variety of legal matters that pose litigation risk to our business in Brazil, including lawsuits relating to consumer issues and product liability, content moderation and intermediary liability. You come up with creative ways to mitigate and eliminate those risks, and strive to think proactively to advance Google’s position and interests by identifying and working on legal policy issues that affect our docket. You enjoy rolling up your sleeves to handle these issues, but at the same time are eager to pitch in where needed to assist our rapidly growing businesses in a collegial, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of pre-litigation and litigation (including matter intake, tracking, fact finding, and preparation of briefs) and provide counseling to internal teams.
  • Work with cross-functional partners across Google, including Legal, Product, Business, and more teams, to provide counseling on existing and potential litigation matters, advise on litigation risk and provide insights into Google’s docket in Brazil.
  • Partner with outside counsel to take an active role in litigation and disputes, develop strategy to manage and win lawsuits.
  • Help ensure product and operational compliance with Brazilian laws and regulations, and assist as necessary in the other work of the Brazilian Legal team to advise the business on our activities in Brazil.
