Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14 years of experience leading negotiations or business development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's degree.
  • Experience in real estate development, evaluation, acquisition, construction, and site selection for industrial-scale projects.
  • Experience with power transmission and distribution, data center technology, industrial-class electrical and cooling technology, or other related technical areas (e.g., understanding of technical requirements like redundancy models (N + 1, 2N) and power density).
  • Experience in managing and partnering government incentives and economic development agreements.
  • Ability to execute in changing, dynamic, collegial and collaborative environments.
  • Proven track record of success working with industrial developers or a major cloud provider.

As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

As a Senior Strategic Negotiator, Data Center Leasing and Investments, you will lead on the front lines of securing the physical infrastructure that powers Google’s products, including Search, Cloud, and AI innovation. This is a leadership role requiring deep expertise in data center real estate and the ability to steer a team through complex transactions from market analysis to execution.

In this role, you will be responsible for defining and executing the strategy for acquiring third-party data center capacity, build-to-suit projects, and joint venture developments. Beyond individual agreement-making, you will architect and lead a high-performing team of negotiators, providing the mentorship, oversight, and organizational advocacy necessary to scale our infrastructure. Your success will be measured by your ability to develop your team’s capabilities while driving savings and accelerated capacity delivery for the company.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end negotiation and execution of high-value real estate agreements, colocation leases, power purchase agreements, and joint ventures.
  • Architect commercial models like NNN leases and sales-leasebacks, partnering business terms with Legal and Finance to mitigate long-term operational risks.
  • Conduct research and modeling to assess capacity needs and strategic expansion markets, while cultivating relationships with key colocation providers and developers.
  • Build business cases using Net Present Value (NPV) and Return on Investment (ROI) metrics, presenting agreement summaries to executive leadership to justify investments and secure approvals.
  • Interface between internal technical teams and external partners, implementing tracking systems to align infrastructure needs with commercial reality.
