About the job

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

The Shopping Graph is Google's comprehensive dataset of commercial information, designed to power shopping experiences across all of Google, including Search, YouTube, Ads, and next-generation AI experiences (like the Gemini, AI Mode and AI Overviews).

The Data Acquisition team focuses on acquiring this high-quality commerce data. The team's vision is to make it effortless for merchants to submit and improve their product information, ensuring the Shopping Graph has extensive coverage and top-tier data quality.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Feeds Features team, you will lead the technical direction, design, and execution of flagship Merchant Center experiences and be responsible for the systems that analyze, benchmark, and optimize billions of offers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end technical designs and drive core implementation (clean code, scalable pipelines, robust inference/serving paths). Balance ambitious AI/ML capabilities with low latency, high throughput, and cost-efficient inference budgets.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership, establish multi-quarter technical roadmaps, and manage high-ambiguity quality challenges. Mentor, guide, and elevate junior to mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, experimentation, and high velocity.
  • Develop, test, and maintain code for software solutions supporting Google Merchant Center's data ingestion and feed management systems based on defined requirements.
  • Apply standard and emerging Google tools, resources, and processes to solve familiar, predefined technical tasks efficiently.
  • Utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) and Gemini to help build autoraters for evaluating product data quality and to automate testing workflows.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
