About the job

Systems Development Engineering (SDE) at Google is a role where you manage services and systems at scale. SDEs creatively put their engineering discipline to use automating the mundane and reducing toil. We don’t just write code to fix bugs, but emphasize the development of tools and solutions that fix classes of problems. We know it’s hard to control what you can’t measure – so we focus on observability: instrumenting first, then turning data into knowledge, and finally knowledge into action. We know that the operational efficiency of Google systems, services, virtual compute environments and the operating systems that power them impact the environment, not just the bottom line. We know that working together we can do more, and that community matters.

Google brings together people with a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We encourage them to collaborate, think big and take risks in a blame-free environment. We promote self-direction to work on meaningful projects, while we also strive to create an environment that provides the support and mentorship needed to learn and grow.

Together we engineer and build the infrastructure, tools, access and telemetry for systems that enable orchestration of Google-scale services. Come build things that matter.

In this role, you will be part of an engineering team supporting United States Government customers and participating in scheduled on-call rotations for timely issue resolution. You will develop cloud infrastructure and service-based solutions, bringing Google Cloud's infrastructure closer to where data is generated and consumed, while mentoring junior team members.

Google Public Sector brings the magic of Google to the mission of government and education with solutions purpose-built for enterprises. We focus on helping United States public sector institutions accelerate their digital transformations, and we continue to make significant investments and grow our team to meet the complex needs of local, state and federal government and educational institutions.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

  • Architect observability solutions and telemetry pipelines, defining Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and dashboards to drive system reliability and operational velocity.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex, multi-domain system issues, analyzing root causes to develop tooling and patches that eliminate recurring failures and toil.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with engineering teams and vendors to seamlessly integrate compute and storage stacks, ensuring platform components operate within infrastructure constraints.
  • Implement and adapt system configurations to satisfy security frameworks, developing solutions that bridge execution boundaries while protecting proprietary infrastructure and data.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
